The day will start with a Pancake Breakfast 8-11 a.m., a 5K Fun Run and Walk with 7 a.m. registration and 8 a.m. start time, a Craft and Ven - dor Faire 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Opening Ceremonies at 10 a.m. and a Kid Zone noon to 4 p.m. Pre registration for the fun run and walk is ap - preciated. The inductees included seven students from the class of 2013 and nine from the class of 2014 – the first two classes of four-year Bachelor of Science in Nurs - ing students in the universi- ty's history. The inaugural inductees comprise the top third of their graduating class. "They have shown lead - ership among their class and the ability to inf lu- ence their peers, our pro- gram and our institution to bring about transform- ing change," said Paul Her- man, assistant professor of nursing. Dr. Robin Dummer, in- terim president, addressed the group about the compe- tence and compassion they demonstrate. "I look for- ward to years of your ser- vice," he said. Jan Dinkel, dean of the School of Nursing, gave a concluding charge. "It's an honor for you to have this privilege and special place in the legacy of Simpson University," she said. The first national honor society for nursing was es - tablished in 1922 at Indiana University. The society's mission is to advance world health and celebrate nursing excel - lence in scholarship, leader- ship and service, Herman said. The university's Honor Society for Nursing has a board of directors that in - cludes Kimberly Shaw, chief nurse executive and vice president of patient care services at Mercy Medical Center in Redding; Leslie Woodson, chief nursing offi - cer at Shasta Regional Med- ical Center; and Michelle Sanders of Mercy, in addi- tion to Dinkel, professors Kristie Stephens and Her- man, and student represen- tatives Patricia Brown and Christopher Donaghe. The members of the in- augural class of the Honor Society of Nursing include the following: class of 2013 graduates Hannah Hoff - man, Nicolle Larkin, Laura Kobzeff, Tessa Smith, Laura Nasise, Danae Hicks, and Kendra Shubert; and class of 2014 graduates Jay Bit - ner, Patricia Brown, Jenna Curato, Christopher Dona- ghe, Robert Edgar, Emily Ganim, Sandra Kitchens, Brad O'Brien and Kimberly Vierhus. Biola students are placed on the Dean's List to honor those with a grade point average of 3.6 or higher while enrolled in 12 of more credit units and whose cu - mulative grade point aver- age is at least a 3.2. This past fall, 25 percent of Bi- ola students achieved this academic goal.
