East-West Stir Fry is from Best of Beef, 261 Prize Win- ning National Beef Cook-Off recipes. 1½ pounds lean ground beef 3 tablespoons corn oil, di - vided ½ pound green beans, cut crosswise in quarters 4 large mushrooms, sliced thinly through stems 2 medium carrots, cut in paper-thin strips with vege - table peeler 1 small white turnip, pared and sliced thinly through stem 1 cup diagonally sliced cel- ery, 1/16 inch thick ½ cup chopped onion ½ cup beef broth 2 tablespoons water 1 tablespoon cornstarch ¼ cup soy sauce 1 tablespoon honey 1 package (10 ounces) spinach, stems removed 4 cups hot cooked rice Orange pieces Orange slices 1. Shape ground beef into large patty. Heat 1 table - spoon oil in wok or large frying pan over high heat. Brown beef patty 4 to 6 min- utes, turning once. Break beef patty into chunks; stir- fry 1 minute or until no lon- ger pink in color. Remove beef to colander. Drain and discard drippings. 2. Heat remaining oil in wok; add green beans, mush - rooms, carrots, turnip, cel- ery and onion. Stir fry 2 min- utes; add broth. Reduce heat; cover and steam 3 to 4 min- utes, stirring occasionally. 3. Combine water and cornstarch. Add cornstarch mixture, soy sauce and honey; stir. Return beef to wok. 4. Place spinach on top of beef and vegetables; cover and steam 2 minutes. Un - cover and stir spinach into sauce. 5. Serve beef and vegeta- ble mixture over hot cooked rice. Arrests Christopher James Cobbs: 47, Chico was arrested Monday at south Avenue west of hall road on outstanding charges of felony failure to appear and misdemeanors of dis- obeying a court order and failure to appear. Walter Dewayne Dani: 24, Corning was arrested Monday at south Avenue west of hall road for felony marijuana for sale and carrying a loaded firearm in public. Bail was $35,000. Viviana Solorio Farias: 23, Corning was arrested Monday at the home De- pot for felony embezzle- ment. Bail was $15,000. Roger Lee Hayden Jr: 43, red Bluff was arrested Monday on the 1500 block of Walbridge street for felony possession of a firearm by a felon, person prohibited from owning a firearm and misdemeanor paraphernalia. Bail was $43,000. Brittney Virginia Long: 25, red Bluff was arrested Monday on the 1500 block of Walbridge street for felony possession of a narcotic, possession of cannabis concentrates and misdemeanor parapherna- lia. Bail was $33,000. Allen Duane Miller: 47, Beaverton, ore. was arrested sunday at the Interstate 5 California highway patrol inspection for felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanors of driving a commercial vehicle under the influence and being under the influence of a controlled substance. Bail was $21,000. Burglary 19000 block Summit Springs Loop: two cabins in the Mill Creek area were reportedly burglarized. 10000 block Shasta Boulevard: A house was reported broken into Mon- day aernoon. A bedroom window was broken and five pounds of marijuana were taken. Collision State Route 99W and South Avenue: A silver Ford Crown Victoria and a black pickup truck were involved in a collision around 3:15 p.m. Monday. the driver of the Crown Victoria reported she was injured. The Marguerite Avenue: A red 2000 saturn was reported stolen. First Street: A leaf blower was stolen. Solano Street: tower Mart reported receiving a counterfeit $20 bill. Corning Union High School: A John Deere bat- tery was reportedly taken from a backhoe over the weekend. Vandalism Rio Vista Lane: A man reported his sister broke the window to his trailer sunday night causing about $50 in damage.
