Grocery outlet business of month Our spotlight this week is on Olive City Care Home, at 423 Walnut St. in Corn- ing. Jeff and Elena Heaney are the owners and have been care-giving for 18 years. Over those years they have come to under - stand that one never stops learning. Each resident has differ- ent needs at the care home and staying up to date with education is very important to them. "We value each resi - dent's life experience be- cause they share with us their knowledge and abil- ity to see life at its best and worst times," Jeff Heaney said. "We are able to care for them in whatever ability they have lost or are strug - gling with." Jeff and Elena are ac- tive members in the Corn- ing community. They spon- sor a little league baseball and football team and con- tribute to many other youth activities. Jeff is the chairman on the finance council of Immaculate Conception Church and the financial secretary of the Knights of Columbus council #9135 in Corning. Jeff is also co- chairman of the Circle of Life Plaza taking shape in front of the church. Olive City Care Home welcomes visitors for their residents, or if you would like to know what the "best run care home in Tehama County" looks like you can stop by 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. any day of the week. They wel - come questions and have many resources available for you. Call (530) 824-2845. Corning in the Evening Last Thursday at Petro Stopping Centers, 2151 South Ave. hosted the monthly get together with a great turnout for the event. They provided many door prizes where almost every - one received a prize. Eliz- abeth Van Cleave, store/ fuel general manager, in- troduced Dennis Mahutga, truck service general man- ager, store/fuel Assistant Manager Rita Flowers and Anita Darrow, Iron Skillet assistant manager. They all spoke briefly about what they offer and about what Petro is doing in the com - munity. One of the interesting facts that we learned is that when every employee is hired they require them to take the informational training on human traffick - ing. They learn how to de- tect it and more impor- tantly how to report it. Human trafficking is a $32 billion criminal enter- prise that targets vulnera- ble people for exploitation. According to the Attor- ney General's report "The State of Human Traffick- ing in California 2012," Cal- ifornia is one of the nation's top destination states for human trafficking enter- prises. "We are doing every- thing in our power to help put an end to this," Van Cleave said. "We have taken a stand against this horrific crimi - nal business and we will not tolerate it. We have several signs posted on our lot, bro- chures at our registers and in our hallways as well as a flyer posted in all of our buildings." The flyer has informa - tion about where to call if you or someone you know is forced to engage in any activity and cannot leave; whether it is commercial sex, housework, farm work, construction, factory, re - tail, or restaurant work, there is a toll-free hotline available 24/7. Thank you, Petro for a very nice evening and for what you contribute to the community. Hymn sing Mt . Olive Luthera n Church will be hosting a Hymn sing at 6:30 p.m. March 30.
