A
s we begin another great semester at the
University of Kansas, I reflect on everything
we have accomplished over the last year, and over
the last three years that I have been a part of Nu
Chapter. Since our re-chartering in 2007, we have
built a solid foundation for the continued growth
of Sigma Nu, and this year we intend to pursue
excellence in all that we do!
Academic Excellence
In the fall semester, Nu Chapter tied Delta Upsilon for
fifth place among fraternities with a 3.09 GPA. While
our chapter-wide GPA fell slightly, our rank on The
Hill did not. Scholarship Chairman John Kelsh '13,
Nu 2330, has implemented several new programs
within the chapter to help brothers struggling in
certain classes. We have set a chapter goal to achieve
a 3.2 GPA for the 2014 spring semester.
Excellence in LEAD
In January, I attended College of Chapters in
Roanoke, Virginia, and was pleased to learn that
Nu Chapter is one of the top-performing chapters
in the country. We have consistently scored among
the top chapters with regards to the Pursuit of
Excellence, and our LEAD program was nationally
recognized. Additionally, our former eminent
commander, Nick Kolega '10, Nu 2250, was
recognized as Sigma Nu's LEAD Chairman of the
Year. Nick successfully implemented all phases of
LEAD at Nu Chapter, and went above and beyond
the recommended guidelines. He coordinated
with alumni, university staff, and business leaders
to provide the brothers with lessons relating to
everything from Sigma Nu history to how to nail
a job interview. Congratulations, Brother Kolega,
on your achievements, and thank you for your
dedication to Nu Chapter.
Excellence in the Community
I am proud to report that we hosted several
philanthropic events last semester, including a donor
drive for the national bone marrow registry and
building a house with Habitat for Humanity. In
addition, we have over 20 brothers involved in
Natural Ties, a program that pairs students and
citizens of the Lawrence community with mental
and developmental disabilities. I would like to
congratulate newly initiated brother Alex Rost '14,
Nu 2364, who matched a patient in need of a life-
saving bone marrow transplant and has agreed to
donate his bone marrow. What a display of love,
truth, and honor!
Thank You, Alumni
From all of the brothers in the undergraduate
chapter, we would like to extend our sincerest thanks
to our loyal alumni, parents, housemother, Sally
Nixon, and all of those who have assisted us over
the last year. Without your support,
we could not hope to achieve the
greatness for which we strive.
Fraternally,
Landon Riesenberg '12, Nu 2316
