The series, which start- ed in October at the Mt. Shasta Ski Park and has had stops in McCloud, Shasta Lake, Redding and Anderson, will hold its final two races of the 10- race series in Red Bluff. This bicycle race is on a closed circuit course featuring different obsta- cles and barriers to test the riders' skills and endurance. Most beginners will race the C-Class, which lasts for 30 minutes, while more confident rid- ers join the B-Class and race for 45 minutes. The 60-minute A-Class attracts the top riders who are going for the prizes offered to the first five finishers. The B & C classes give rewards to the first three to cross the line and the winners of age groups. This is a family orien- tated event whose catch- phrase is "We're here to have fun, run wha'cha brung." Sunday's race will take place at Dog Island Park and the series finale will be at Forward Park on March 16. C-Class starts a noon followed by the B- Class. Nut Festival offers culinary delights and more CHICO – Food, wine and beer lovers unite. With a focus on locally grown foods from the North Valley, the fifth annual California Nut Festival is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 19. Each year, this popular culinary event showcases plenti- ful gourmet food offerings, wine and beer sampling, nut- inspired cooking demonstrations, live musical entertain- ment on two outdoor stages, a wonderful art show featuring talented local artists and much more. Tickets go on sale March 10 for the festival that takes place outdoors on the historic grounds of the Patrick Ranch Museum in Chico. Locally grown nuts including almonds, walnuts, pecans and pistachios take center stage during crowd-pleasing cooking demonstrations in the afternoon. The goal of the vibrant, entertaining and fun annual festival is to celebrate the culinary delights grown and produced in California while paying tribute to the region's strong farming heritage in Butte County and also providing festival guests with an opportunity to connect with local farmers and growers. "Coinciding with the high profile 'farm-to-fork' move- ment that has taken hold and is gaining real momentum throughout Northern California, the California Nut Festival is celebrating its fifth year and has already become a desti- nation event for foodies, farmers and the local community here in the North Valley and the surrounding regions," explains Kathy Chance, lead organizer of the 2014 Califor- nia Nut Festival. "To mark the fifth year of the festival, we are excited to showcase new offerings along with bringing back the crowd favorites. In addition, the community should be very proud that their participation in this event helps to support the historic Patrick Ranch Museum, which is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the rich agricul- tural history of the area." Located just 90 miles north of Sacramento, Chico is "where the nuts are from." To make the festival a weekend getaway, guests can fly directly into Chico via a short 45- minute flight from San Francisco. Sacramento Internation- al Airport is the closest major airport and offers shuttle ser- vices and rental car options. Visit the Chico Chamber of Commerce at www.ChicoChamber.com (click on Visitor Information/Places to Stay) for numerous local hotel and bed and breakfast accommodations.
