The committee's first meeting was Jan. 17. The committee has been described as the "coming together of the City and County to discuss mutual interests and projects for the betterment of the community." One decision that was made years ago as a result of the Fayetteville-Cumberland Joint Committee was the consolidation of Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks & Recreation. According to Mayor Nat Robertson, future discussions will focus on park facilities on school campuses and the economic feasibility of a joint 911 call center. Fayetteville Mayor Pro Tem Kady-Ann Davy, who is presiding over committee meetings, said: "What I hope to gain is that the City, County and various entities can partner together to achieve common goals." "The County welcomes efforts to collaborate with our municipalities and I view the reestablishment of the Fayetteville-Cumberland Joint Committee as an important step in improving communication," said Cumberland County Board of Commissioners Chairman Dr. Jeannette Council. Fayetteville OutFront acts as a virtual living room where citizens can come and share their ideas and thoughts with City staff. On the website, City staff will post surveys, host forums, create discussions and manage public projects. Residents can also create and post their own ideas or comments and vote on ideas created by other citizens. The goal of the website is to create two-way conversations between the public and City employees. Reports and analysis based on the opinions shared on the website will be distributed to policy makers, such as City Council members and department heads to inform them as they make decisions that affect the community. Citizens can get started in the online conversation by signing up at FayettevilleOutFront.com.
