Wednesday, January 22, 2014 – Daily News 3A Community people&events Choral workshop with Allan Petker Do you like to sing? Or listen to good singing? Then the 19th Annual Choral Workshop at The Presbyterian Church of Red Bluff is for you. This year it will be held on Feb. 8 and 9 at the church, 838 Jefferson St. with registration at 8:30 a.m. and will conclude at 4 p.m. The fee for the workshop is $40 which includes excellent lunch, snacks and music. On Saturday, director Allan Petker teaches the songs and on Sunday the class sings them during the Ecumenical Choral Worship Service. Anyone who sings in a choir or just enjoys singing is welcome. No try out required. Petker is a composer, publisher and conducts his own choir in the Bay Area, Concert Chorale, as well as the Santa Clarita Master Chorale. He is dean of the music conference "Summer Sing" at Lake Tahoe, Nev., where a group of 150 singers meets in August.This will be the 25th year for that conference. Author, historian to speak Dr. Mardith Scheutz-Miller, author, anthropologist and award-winning historian, will share her findings on the early literature of the Southwest at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, at the Tehama County Library, 645 Madison St. The meeting in the community room is sponsored by the Red Bluff-Tehama County branch of the American Association of University Women. It is open to the public. Scheutz-Miller took an early interest in the native peoples of the Spanish missions of south Texas. They became the subject of her doctoral dissertation at the University of Texas at Austin. Her interests broadened to other parts of the Spanish borderlands and archaeology of the American southwest and Latin America. As an artist, she published work on the design and geometric forms of mission churches and other sacred architecture. More recently she wrote on common themes found in world religions. Police reports The following information is compiled from Red Bluff Police Department, Tehama County Sheriff's Department, Corning Police Department and California Highway Patrol. Arrests • Alexander Love Acosta Jr., 22, Corning was arrested Sunday at South and 4th streets for felony failure to appear and a special allegation offense. Bail was $40,000. • Arne Christian Andersen, 24, Corning was arrested Saturday on the 2000 block of South Avenue for felony possession of a controlled substance. Bail was $15,000. • David Shawn Armstrong, 25, Gerber was arrested Sunday at Samson and Santa Rosa for felony possession of a controlled substance. Around 3:40 a.m. deputies conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a pickup truck traveling on Samson Avenue in Gerber. Armstrong was a passenger in the vehicle. During a consensual search of the vehicle a K9 unit was utilized. The dog alerted to a small bindle located under the passenger seat, which contained a crystal substance suspected to be methamphetamine. Armstrong admitted to the deputy that the substance was methamphetamine and it belonged to him. Bail was $15,000. • Brany Lynn Cooper, 22, Redding was arrested Saturday on outstanding felony charges of transportation of a controlled substance and transportation of a narcotic. Bail was $100,000. • Richard Paul Guttridge, 23, Corning was arrested Friday at Cabernet and Sale Lane for felony possession of a controlled substance. Bail was $15,000. • Myles Arthur Lewis, 27, Corning was arrested Monday at Fairview and Yolo streets for felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor being under the influence of a controlled substance. Bail was $16,000. • Kevin Dale Martin, 52, Los Molinos was arrested Friday on Oklahoma Avenue on outstanding charges of felony transportation of a controlled substance and misdemeanor failure to appear. Martin is on Post Release Community Supervision. Bail was $350,000. • Filiberto Martinez, 34, Corning was arrested Monday for felony child endangerment and misdemeanor driving under the influence. Bail was $55,000. • James Harold Pendergrass, 31, Sacramento was arrested Friday at State Route 99W at South Avenue on outstanding charges of felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor receiving known stolen property. Bail was $25,000. • Cody Leroy Radford, 24, Redding was arrested SECRET WITNESS 529-1268 A program of Tehama County Neighborhood Watch Program, Inc. Cut pocket lengthwise in beef brisket. Brown ground beef and onion in frying pan; season with salt and pepper. Combine beef mixture with rice, croutons, egg and savory. Bail was $52,500. • Kou Vang, 34, Sacramento was arrested Monday on southbound Interstate 5 at Sourgrass for felony possession of marijuana for sale and selling marijuana. Bail was $100,000. • Travis Anthony Vonmagnus, 32, Red Bluff was arrested Friday at Antelope Boulevard and Gilmore Road on outstanding charges of felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanors of failure to appear and paraphernalia. Animals • A resident on the 23000 block of Goings Avenue reported two dogs killed her cow Friday night. • Someone reported that a resident on the 17000 block of Elder Creek Circle shot a dog Saturday morning. Burglary • A burglary was reported at a rental house on the 22000 block of Bosque Avenue Monday. A television, bed, furniture and orchard pump were taken. Theft • Two red metal car ramps valued at $30 were reportedly stolen on the 24000 block of Eldrid Avenue Friday. • A purse was reported stolen from an unsecured vehicle on Ventura Avenue Friday. • A 150-year-old copper bell was reported stolen from a yard on the 13000 block of Baker Road Saturday. • About 13 gallons of gasoline were taken from a gas tank that was drilled into on the 3000 block of State Route 99W Sunday. • A fence was cut and a tire and fuel taken from Dietz equipment Monday. Vandalism • A vehicle on White Road was keyed Friday. The damage was estimated at $200. • A motorcycle parked in a garage on the 18000 block of Cobblestone Drive was reportedly keyed Saturday. Two in liquor cases demand trial by jury At least two of the men arrested in the last liquor raids of Tehama county officers have indicated they will fight the charges brought against them. Robert Bernard of Tehama not only pleaded not guilty of possession of liquor but demanded a jury trial.
