When Bill and I were on the Western Livestock Journal tour of Eastern Oregon and Idaho several years ago, we visited the ranches of two of the 2011 dog buyers, when we met Shirley Hindman, of Washington whose cattle were in Oregon and Harry Bettis, of Emmett, Idaho. Both were gracious hosts to our group. Dave Minch wrote, Feb. 9, 1942, I SAY, “The sale of purebred bulls here Saturday was one of the best events ever held here. I hope it will be a yearly event and be much bigger next year. “Many real good bulls were sold in this county for use here that would not otherwise have been possible. Cattlemen wish- ing to buy one or two bulls could not afford to travel to Montana to see the bulls that were brought right here for them to see. The quality that these bulls will add to our livestock cannot be overestimated.” Jean Barton can be reached at jbarton@theskybeam.co m.
