"It is a walk around the half mile paved walking trail at your own pace while enjoying the sights and sounds of the Christmas season," said Erica Brady, special events coordinator of Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation. "You can walk around and see all the lights and take in the other activities." The trail imcludes a multitude of decorations ranging from a couple of feet tall to 10-feet tall. The main focus is the center Christmas display. It is a 30-foot Christmas tree surrounded by 16-foot Christmas trees that are programmed to dance with the music. There are other additions such as a marshmallow roasting pit, movie screen featuring Christmas cartoons, kid's craft station, a train ride to view other Christmas decorations, dancing to Christmas music and photos with jolly old Santa Claus. The purpose of the event is to provide a Christmas opportunity to the residents of Fayetteville and Cumberland County. "Until we started this event, most families would visit locations outside of Fayetteville and Cumberland County to view Christmas lights," said Brady. "This event gives the residents an opportunity to stay right here and get to experience this Christmas program." Brady added that there is a hope that people from outside of Fayetteville and Cumberland County will come here and visit our area while visiting the lights. The Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation provides recreational opportunities to the citizens of Fayetteville and Cumberland County such as their cultural programs, youth development, summer camps, Cape Fear River Trail, youth and adult athletics, exhibits and recreational centers.
