2A – Daily News – Friday, December 24, 2010 Community people&events Tree trimming Young Marines hold Christmas party The Tehama County Young Marines held its annual Chritmas Party on Friday, Dec. 17, at Sun- rise Bible Fellowship in Red Bluff. The mission of the Young Marines is to pos- itively impact America’s future by providing a quality youth develop- ment program for boys and girls that nurtures and develops its mem- bers into responsible citi- zens who enjoy and pro- mote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. The Tehama County Young Marines have won numerous awards, including the 2009 Ful- crum Shield from the Secretary of Defense and the 2010 Unit of the Year. Several of our Young Marines have traveled to Washington, D. C., the United Nations in New York, and to Guam and Iwo Jima. They have been to lead- ership schools in Vir- ginia, Oregon and at Camp Pendleton near San Diego. The local Young Marines serve in our own community at dinners for veterans organizations, performing color guards, parking cars at the rodeo, and other services. Those interested in getting their children involved can get applica- tions for Young Marine Boot Camp in spring, which will be available after Jan. 15.
