A neighborhood friend introduced him to the men of Lambda Chi Alpha, and since then, Jim has not looked back. "I went to all the houses and decided that LCA was the place I wanted to be. I have never changed that thought. Many of my closest friends today are brothers from the Chapter," he said. "We were always one of the top two or three chapters in academics and intramurals and had some great brothers who ran nearly every organization on campus at the time." Jim went on to serve as pledge class president and recruitment chairman for the Fraternity during his undergraduate years. "Lambda Chi certainly got me off to a good start with the study hours in the first semester, but more than that, it was the whole social interaction of being part of a close-knit organization that worked together to achieve common goals. The leadership skills I was able to gain from being involved with the Fraternity became more valuable to me than the technical engineering skills I learned in the classroom. I would like to preserve that experience for future Alpha-Delta Zeta members." After graduating with a bachelor of science in chemical engineering, Jim went to work building pipeline facilities for Conoco, eventually transitioning to their natural gas and gas products division as a division manager, sending him into the retail propane gas business. He used this experience to launch his own startup in 1989, going public in 1996. The company eventually became the third largest in the propane market the United States. When asked what prompted him to support the Honoring Our Past, Securing Our Future campaign, Jim immediately thought back to the alumni support he was afforded as an undergraduate. "We were fortunate to have the alumni involvement we did. That support helped us become and remain a top Fraternity at the school. The new facilities we had in the '60s would not have been possible without the help of many alumni who came before us. Now it's our turn to step up and help. The Chapter House is over 50 years old and had some very hard use over the years. If the Fraternity was an important and positive part of your life, help provide other young men have that same experience, as the older alumni did for us." Jim retired in 2000 after selling his business and now enjoys life as a full-time grandparent with his wife, Glenda, to their 12 grandchildren. In his spare time he enjoys snow skiing, fishing, and spending time on his ranch. Jim and Glenda reside in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and you can e-mail him at pinnacleinvestmentsllc@gmail.com. Lambda Chi Alpha Lambda Chi Alpha Established as A Top Fraternity on Campus Undergraduates Strive for Excellence W elcome, alumni, to The Lambda Lamp. Over the past semester, the Chapter has seen substantial improvement and does not plan on slowing down. From improving our Chapter GPA to being recognized by not only Missouri S&T Greek Life, but also the general Fraternity, the Chapter will build on the gains made last semester. With 12 associates and a young High Zeta, the future looks bright for Alpha-Delta Zeta. Chapter GPA Has Record Increase Academics have been a priority for the Chapter and the programs we have implemented are paying off for our members. The Chapter raised its overall GPA from a 2.79 to 2.92. With the continued effort of active and associate members alike, the Chapter hopes to improve upon our GPA even more. Individual Members and Chapter Recognized for Awards We have made significant improvements over the past semester and were fortunate enough to be recognized for our efforts. At the Greek awards banquet at the end of last semester, Lambda Chi was presented with the 2013 Outstanding Volunteer Greek Organization Award. This award is given to only one Greek organization for their outstanding efforts with PRO Days and other new student programs that the campus puts on. Alpha-Delta Zeta also received certificates for outstanding community service, averaging more than 25 hours per man over the past two semesters. In addition to receiving those awards for our service efforts, the Chapter was one of a handful to receive the Tozier Brown Public Affairs Project Award for Dietrich Johnson '15, our Cangineering event, which Zach Buhr '16, and Rob Fletcher '15 raised over 9,500 pounds of food take a break while collecting for the St. James Food Bank and canned goods at Lambda Chi's the annual Lambda Chi Alpha Cangineering philanthropy. North American Food Drive. Upcoming Events for Alpha-Delta Zeta The Fraternity will continue the success of the previous semester and build on our accomplishments. After finishing fourth in Greek Week last year, Alpha-Delta Zeta is focused on being successful against the rest of the fraternities this year. On November 3, we will hold our 53rd annual Chicken Benefit Dinner to help raise money for numerous charities in the Rolla area. We hope to see you there.
