Dianne and Danny Rabalais, owners of We Shoot Ya Photography, organized the dog food drive. In exchange for pet food, donors received free photos of their pets. The event was enjoyed by a number of his little friends, all of whom were cared for by Mrs. Rose Kuhn, Mrs. A.H. Bressler, Angie Saunders and Delia Bressler. For patients in hospitals – many who are receiving blood transfusions being away from home and family dur- ing this holiday can be especially difficult and patients, families and friends are thankful for the precious gift of blood that allows them to survive. Show your thanks for good health by donating blood and remembering those who are unable to take their place at the family table this Thanksgiving. The gift of a blood donation may allow these same patients to sit at the table next year and offer thanks for you because blood donors save lives. Two blood drives are being held in Tehama County next week the day before and after Thanksgiving: • Red Bluff Community Thanksgiving Blood Drive, 2-7 p.m. Nov. 24 at the Red Bluff Walmart at the Blood- mobile. Donors will receive a free mug, cholesterol test and points toward donor gifts. • Rolling Hills Casino is holding a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 26, in the HR Training Room behind the casino All participants will receive a 2- for-1 buffet coupon from Rolling Hills and a BloodSource t-shirt. Blood donors must be at least 17 years old, or 16 with parent permission, and in good health. Donors must have a photo ID. Women’s Opportunity Award Since 1972, the Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity Awards program has provided women who are the prima- ry wage earners in their families with the financial resources to offset costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education or additional training. The award can be used for tuition, books, childcare, carfare or other education-related expense. The Red Bluff Soroptimist club provides a $300 cash grant to its award recipient, who then will advance to the Soroptimist Sierra Nevada Region level, where one recip- ient will receive $5,000. The program culminates with three finalist $10,000 awards. The application deadline is Dec.15. Her father was from Siberia; he escaped with his family when he was a baby on a homemade raft as they fled the unrest caused by the czars at that time. Her mother was from New York. Before the days of the "talkies," Eleanore played the organ at the movie house in Rodeo. She stayed active all her life until recently, and always loved being in charge. She was a travel agent for many years taking a group of senior citizens called the "Live Wires" around the world on many adventures. She also worked with the mentally challenged, and was President of the Senior Center in Albany three times. Eleanore says her secret to a long life is to "Enjoy life!" She also sums up the best advice she has to offer: "Make the most of everything and mind your own busi- ness!" Eleanore has outlived two wonderful husbands. She was married to William Miller for 43 years. Then she married Steve Belec when she was 69; they were married for 25 years. Her family loves to tell stories about her, and tell everyone that she is a terrific mother and wonderful grandmother. Eleanore had one child, Irene Barbie, of Paskenta. She also has six grandchildren, 15 great grand- children, and 17 great great grandchildren. She currently lives at Brentwood Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in Red Bluff where for the last two years she has eaten a fried egg three times a day at breakfast, lunch and dinner, asking for it if it is missing off her plate.
