TEA AND BOUTIQUE Fri., Dec. 3rd 10AM to 3PM 25076 Sycamore Avenue, behind La Corona, Los Molinos 9AM to 8PM Sat., Dec. 4th , 2010 , 2010 Make sure online coupons are accepted Dear Mary: When I presented my online coupons that I had printed from my home com- puter, the grocery clerk said the store does not accept online coupons because they could be fake. I was not happy to hear this. What com- ments or suggestions do you have? I live in a small town. Is this happening all over? -- Penny, Min- nesota Dear Penny: It is understandable that stores are concerned about counterfeit home-printed coupons. There have been incidents in which some fraudulent coupons were redeemed. But the system has improved vastly and continues to become more secure and reliable. Online coupons printed on home computers are here to stay, so stores that want to retain customers are finding they need to get with the program. Here are some things you can do to make sure your coupons are accepted: • Ask your store's manager for a written copy of the coupon policy. Say, "What is your policy regarding the acceptance of coupons printed from a home computer?" Or find this information on the store's web- site. Print it out so you can keep this information handy. • Only print coupons from reli- able websites. To help my "Every- day Cheapskate" readers, we recently added the Coupon Down- load Center at http://www.DebtProofLiv- ing.com as part of the Coupons.com network. We are a website you can rely on for legitimate coupons with secure bar codes. • When you print coupons from legitimate coupon sites, do not cut out the coupons. Take the entire page with you to the store so that you can prove you printed it from a legitimate website. The URL will be on the page. If the cashier will not accept your printed coupon, ask to speak to the manager. Show him/her the printed URL of the coupon website, and suggest that he/she visit the site to see that it is legiti- mate. your experience. Include the address and phone number of the specific store so that the corporate headquarters can follow up with the store. Include the name of the coupon website you used, as well. I hope you will make the Mary Hunt Everyday Cheapskate • If the cashier does not accept the coupon and the manager is not available, take the coupon to the customer service counter for assis- tance. Show the person there the store's coupon policy, which you have printed and carry with you. • If your efforts in the store do not succeed, be sure to write a letter or send an e-mail to the customer service contact, complaining about effort to work with your store on this issue. It is pos- sible that the clerk you spoke with is not aware of the store's corporate policy on home-printed coupons. You will be doing the store and your fellow customers a huge service by getting the store on board. Cus- tomer-printed coupons are becoming a huge source of business and a convenience for consumers because we can print just the coupons we want. Good luck. I hope you'll let us know how this turns out for you. Do you have a question for Mary? E-mail her at mary@everydaycheapskate.com, or write to Everyday Cheapskate, P.O. Box 2135, Paramount, CA 90723.
