Gamma Xi Anchor 2 Chapter Success Extends throughout T he women of Gamma Xi continually encourage me to be a better woman! We now have an award-winning chapter, had an awesome recruitment, are planning an exciting Homecoming, and continually strive in our academics and involvement. TOP-RANKING CHAPTER Chapter members chant and welcome potential new members into our lodge during recruitment. Our 72 new members bring our chapter to 219 members. This semester we received the Patricia Peterson Danielson Award! This distinguished award could not have been attained without the dedication of the whole chapter, and the continual support of our advisers, alumnae, and parents. We also received the award for Excellence in Community Service at the Greek Awards Banquet in the spring. Last spring we achieved the highest chapter GPA in 13 semesters, with 17 women earning a 4.0. During the semester, we offer as many opportunities as possible to help our members succeed, including the A bucket, study hall hours, tutors, and much more. SUCCESSFUL EVENTS Members take a break on a beautiful afternoon at Fiji Olympics. Gamma Xi seniors pose after their last preference ceremony. Last semester we held our third annual Anchor Slam. More than 150 men participated in the event and all proceeds benefited Delta Gamma Service for Sight. This semester, Gamma Xi will host Anchor Splash on November 1, which coincides with Dad's Weekend. We would love for all our parents and alumnae to come out and support this wonderful event. I want to thank the alumnae and parents who donated time or money to help make the 2013 recruitment fabulous! All the hard work we put into the week paid off when our 72 new members (quota was 68) stepped off the Bid Day buses. We now boast a chapter of 219 members. This year for Homecoming we are paired with Kappa Sigma. In celebration of the 90th anniversary of Texas Tech, the theme for Homecoming is Tech Loves the '90s. Our chapter theme is No Strings Attached ('N Sync) and we look forward to competing in so-sing, our spirit banner and board. Last spring we held an adviser appreciation dinner on Cinco de Mayo, complete with a fajita dinner and gifts of massages and candles for all their hard work. This fall, for the Texas Tech Family Weekend, we hosted a Friday Night Lights tailgate at our lodge where members were able to bring their family to the lodge, grill out, and get ready for the football game the next day. SISTERS ON CAMPUS Now I want to brag on our individual members! Last semester Bailey Iverson '12 won Outstanding Sophomore of the Year at the Greek Awards Banquet. Our members are involved all over campus, including: President's Select, Chancellors Ambassador, Student Government Ambassadors (SGA), SGA Senators, SGA Supreme Court, Mortar Board, Texas Tech volunteer assistant volleyball coach, and so many more. This semester is already in full swing and we have a lot in store for next semester as well. If you are ever in Lubbock and have a few minutes, please stop by the lodge.
