Phi Delta Theta Alumni Update Chapter Grand John Watts '36 entered the Chapter Grand on January 9. He had a long and varied life as a soldier, a lawyer, a math professor, and was a wonderful parent and grandparent. In retirement, John carried on his lifelong love affair with golf, walking the course well into his mid 90s; he refused to use a cart. He is survived by his daughters, Saralyn and Virginia, son, John, five grandchildren, and one great‑grandson. Lawrence R. Buckley '42 entered the Chapter Grand on September 28, 2012. He joined the American College of Surgeons and practiced general surgery until his retirement in 1980, serving both as chief of surgery and chief of staff during his tenure. Lawrence is survived by his wife, Jane, children, John and Joan, and four grandchildren. Michael Thomasson '67 entered the Chapter Grand on November 15, 2012. He was a partner with Thomasson Thomasson Long & Guthrie PC since 1971. Michael is survived by his wife, Debbie; children: Amy, Meg, Peter, Tarra, Amber, and Emily; and seven grandchildren. Patrick McKenna Jr. '94 entered the Chapter Grand on March 10. He is survived by his daughter, Emilee, companion, Leslee, and her children, Cierra and Blade. S teven J. Setchell '96 was recently appointed to serve as DePauw University's first associate vice president for alumni engagement. Steven currently serves in a senior development officer role at DePauw and will begin his duties immediately. He will report to Melanie J. Norton, new vice president for development and alumni engagement. Steven previously served as director of corporate and foundation relations, major gifts officer, director of the annual fund and admission officer. He also chaired the University's 175th anniversary celebration. DePauw President Brian W. Casey has given the task of restructuring the alumni relations and engagement efforts to Steven and Melanie. They will create a series of programs to improve connections between the University's alumni office and other core University activities. "DePauw changed my life, just as it has done for generations of alumni," said Steven. "I am deeply grateful for this opportunity to give back to the University, at this moment and under the leadership of President Casey. I look forward to collaborating with Melanie Norton to more meaningfully engage our alumni in the life and mission of the University."
