The DePauw Phi Phis Show Variety of Talents T he men of Indiana Zeta have started off the fall right where we left off in the spring. After a successful Little 5 weekend, when Phi Delta Theta riders finished third overall, the Phis of 446 Anderson Street conducted a successful philanthropic event. The week of Strikes and Steals brought in dollars and raised awareness for the fight against ALS. The Brothers hosted an event with a hot dog eating contest, live music, and a whiffle ball home run derby, which brought out many DePauw students. The end of the school year did not bring an end to the excitement for the Phi Delt men. After a successful recruitment of new members, the Indiana Zeta Chapter was recognized with an Excellence in Recruitment award during the Phi Delta Theta Kleberg Emerging Leaders Institute in Oxford, Ohio. Special thanks go to Recruitment Chairman Zach Galyean '13 and the recruitment committee on great work all spring to recruit 26 fantastic new members. This class was second in grades among fraternity new initiates—further raising the profile of Phi Delt at DePauw. The facelift of the Chapter House is well documented in pictures in this newsletter. But these tangible changes are not the only thing causing excitement this fall. The DePauw Tigers football team, led by a new head coach is looking to make some noise this season and rebound from recent down years. Led by senior captain and tight end Kevin Ude '14 the Monon Bell Game against the Little Giants of Wabash is being played at Blackstock on November 16. Meanwhile, the Chapter is also well represented on the soccer field. Senior Dave Large '14, juniors Mike Deoliveira '15 and Phil Gross '15, and sophomores Jon Krok '16, Mitch Brown '16, and Greg Barrow '16 all represent Indiana Zeta on the nationally ranked squad. The team is currently undefeated in the fledgling season and looks to build on their NCAA appearance from a season ago. Last spring, six Phis contributed to the tennis team and more than a dozen men were integral to Tiger baseball squad. In the music realm, Phis Ryan Allee '15 and Mitch Brown '16 have released new music videos. Brown, who goes by the stage name Kid Quill, has released an album entitled First Cut as well as several singles and is set to release a new album. He has opened for several established groups and has set future dates throughout the Midwest to perform in the coming months. Mitch and Ryan have even collaborated on a song titled "Let It Go," which they created during winter term 2013. The song is featured on Mitch's first album. As you read this, we are enjoying all of the improvements to the Chapter House made possible through the generosity of our alumni and the hard work of our House Corporation and Advisory Board members, along with the care provided by houseparents Brenda and Gary Terrell. Know that we are grateful for all of this. Yours in the Bond, Jack Forde '16 Alumni Secretary p. 2 Recruitment Recommendations We value alumni referrals. If you know a young man attending DePauw you'd like to recommend for membership, please send his contact and any other information to cl.johnston@yahoo.com.
