Theta Kite Alpha Chi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta • Established at Purdue University in 1915 • Fall 2013 W Ring Out Three Cheers for Alpha Chi! ith the support of alumnae, the Alpha Chi Facility Corporation has covered an impressive part of our journey with our beloved house since last you saw the Theta Kite: the exterior of our house has been caulked and sealed to protect it from the elements, as well as painted in a most attractive way as a bonus. We have also located hundreds of our Alpha Chi sisters, are actively communicating through Facebook by putting class secretaries in place, have hired a wonderful facility director, continued our connectivity with facility leadership on campus and appropriate offices at the University, and ended the year both with a balanced budget and a bit extra to salt away for the reduction of the mortgage. The Facility Corporation Board has been blessed by the participation of two wonderful and fully engaged members of the Advisory Board and three exceptional members of chapter leadership; we could not do without them. Alumnae are reconnecting and engaging with ideas and energy. Shout-outs to Dawn Page Auch '92 and Ann Fawcett Murphy '72 for Facebook leadership, Barbara Frick Bitzer '70 for leading the organization of Founders Day, Brandi Bennett Burke '00 for organizing Homecoming festivities, and Mary Kay Williams Chandler '64 and Kelly VojtaCraggs '09 for volunteering as our first class secretaries. What a sisterhood! Much of what I am mentioning is covered in detail herein so do read on! Judy Evans '64 tells you about the work on the exterior; we are fortunate to have her design and architectural degrees and expertise. Linda Doyle is pictured and introduced as our new facility director. Financial performance will be presented at the annual meeting, and dates to connect in person and ways to connect electronically are given as well. gathering form, knowing that its importance is multi-faceted. Think of how exciting it would be to mentor some of the women in the chapter and know that the learning will flow both ways. I do want to invite you as well to let me know if you would like to be a class secretary. Experience teaches us that we are a mobile group and that a personal touch is required if we are to keep up with our changes. Our goal is to have a member of each class touch base with her sisters, gather new contact information, and snippets of news. It's an easy task and one that is highly valuable to us all; there is a checkbox on the data form to indicate your interest. We enjoyed touring Charleston, with its historic homes and beautiful gardens, visiting local plantations, trying local cuisine, as well as walking the beach, riding bikes, and seeing alligators in the wild. Maryanne Marchino Witchger '58 welcomed us to the island with a fun-filled party in her lovely home. We all owe a great debt to Maryjane Kimmell Link '59 for organizing the reunion and Susie Price Sterner '59 for planning and preparing fantastic meals. Chatter and laughter filled most of our hours, as we caught up with everyone's news. After all, it had been two and a half years since we last got together and a lot has happened since then, retirements and grandchildren among them. While we have each accomplished many different things since leaving 607 Russell Street, we all agree that we feel honored to belong to a group of such outstanding women and are grateful to those who chose us to join Theta.
