Chair r speaks D.C. Fly-in Gives Us Unique Business Opportunity attended by several members of our community made up of small and large business owners, leaders from our local educational systems, and members from our health-care industry. One highlight of our busy schedule included L Chris Bostock ast month I had the opportunity to attend the Chamber’s annual “fly-in” to Wash- ington DC. It was a great event and was efforts in doing business with the military. Further highlights included presentations from the country’s leadership in Business to many of you- Scott Perry from PDI/DSTA, Scott Dorney from the North Carolina Mili- tary Business Center, and Greg Taylor from the BRAC Regional Task Force. The make up of our State’s panel is yet another confirmation of the importance of our local leaders to the states business, political, and military affairs as well as having the opportunity to speak to our federal delegation on the concerns and opportunities of small business in Fayetteville and Cumberland County. I would encourage you as a Chamber member to put our annual fly-in on a brief from several state representatives on the economic importance of the military to our State’s economy. Our State’s delegation included familiar faces your calendar of yearly events. It’s a great way to stay connected and keep our elected leadership informed on the issues that are impacting your business. Speaking of small business, the chamber recently hosted a State of Small Business event featuring presentations from North Carolina Lieutenant Gov- ernor Walter Dalton and our Secretary of Commerce Dale Carroll. The importance of small business to our state’s economy was the featured topic. Steve Mannell, our Vice Chair of Business Development, took the op- portunity of this event to announce a new Chamber initiative to recognize the tremendous contributions of small businesses to our community. Going forward the Chamber will have a Small Business of the Year award and begin to formally recognize a Small Business of the Month. I want to publicly thank Steve and his committee’s efforts to take to en- hance Chamber offerings to support small business in Fayetteville and Cum- berland County. I would also like to take this opportunity to invite you to be a part of his committee. His Small Business Committee meets monthly and their main focus is to make it easier to do business in Fayetteville and Cumberland County. 484-4242 Ext. 235 or tlyden@fayettevillencchamber.org.
