Bochy said he would do so to break up the two right-handers — Lincecum and Matt Cain, who now is set to pitch Game 3 back in San Fran- cisco on Tuesday. ‘‘It gives Matt the home opener here,’’ Bochy said Wednesday before his team’s workout at AT&T Park on an unseasonably hot 90-degree fall day in the Bay Area. ‘‘That’s the way we’re leaning right now. We have confidence in both of them but we really think to break up the righties and lefties there is a better way to go.’’ Game 1 is Saturday night at Citi- zens Bank Park with the highly antic- ipated matchup between Lincecum and Roy Halladay, who pitched a no- hitter in the division series. ‘‘It’s going to be fun,’’ Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval said. ‘‘They have one of the best pitchers in the National League and we have one of the best pitchers on our team.’’ Lincecum is coming off a two-hit gem with 14 strikeouts in his playoff debut in Game 1 of the division series against the Atlanta Braves. Sanchez is penciled in to pitch Sunday’s Game 2 against the two-time defending NL champions. ‘‘We’ll see what happens these first two games. It’s going to be a hyped-up crowd,’’ said Lincecum, who faced the Phillies in his major league debut on May 30, 2007. ‘‘They’re the team to beat. They’ve been there before and they’re there again.’’ Bochy said rookie Madison Bum- garner, who beat the Braves in the division series clincher Monday at Atlanta, is a candidate to pitch Game 4 depending on where the series stands. If anybody can help the Giants get ready, it’s Pat Burrell. The left fielder, who signed a minor league deal in late May and joined San Francisco after a short stint with Triple-A Fres- no, spent his first nine major league seasons with the Phillies — and won a World Series ring in Philly two years ago. SWIMMING Orland Red Bluff By RICHGREENE DNSports Editor Red Bluff held their final home dual meet of the season, Wednesday, a week before the Spartans compete in the Eastern Athletic League Champi- onships. No team scores were kept, Wednes- day, as the visiting Orland team was made up of swimmers from several schools who train together. Samara Robinson won a pair of individual events — the 50 freestyle (29.23) and 100 freestyle (1:06.84) — and was a part of the winning 200 freestyle relay team. Robinson joined Laura Schreter, Mayson Trujillo and Aylnda Ellis in swimming a 2:00.41. Trujillo won the 100 breast in 1:26.44. Four boys won individual events. Greg Wilson won the 200 freestyle (2:08.55), Curtis Twitchell won the 50 freestyle (24.93), Larsen Dahl won the 100 butterfly (1:04.85) and Brad Dufour won the 100 breast (1:17.22). Twitchell, Dahl and Wilson teamed with Bryce Eggert to win the 200 freestyle (1:43.89). “That was a real fast meet,” coach Paul Trujillo said. “Those kids ought to be pooped out — that’s good — that’s the way it ought to be.” The EALChampionships are Wednesday, Oct. 20 at Noon. Corning dropped to 1-2 in the Northern Athletic League and 11-10 overall. Los Molinos 25 25 25 Biggs 13 14 20 The Lady Bulldogs swept Biggs in three games, Tuesday, to pick up their first league win of the season. “We played like a team and attacked on free balls,” coach Chas Konopka said. Kiersten Seaman had nine kills and five aces to lead Los Molinos. Callie Carruth had 20 assists. The Bulldogs were able to work in some of their reserves during the match and Audrey Gillett and Tasha Madison made the most of the playing time. Madison recorded three aces. The win was another example of how well the back row has played for Los Molinos. Back row players include Briselda Castillo, Francis Ocampo, Dannie Wabs, Gillett, Seaman and Nikki Quirke. Maxwell prevented the Lady War- riors from a third consecutive league win, Tuesday, knocking off Mercy in four games. Alex McFadyen had seven kills for Mercy. Diana Van Ert had six aces. Jennifer Gentry made 14 assists and Maggie Keller had 10. FIELD HOCKEY Corning 1 Lassen 2 Lassen defeated the Lady Cardinals 2-1. The Lady Grizzlies went on top with 17:24 remaining in the first half. Corning answered 14 minutes later when Nicole Mason pushed in a goal off of a short corner. Mason led the Cardinals with five shots on goal. Mayra Diera had four shots. An aggressive second half saw Lassen scoring the game winner with 13 minutes remaining. Corning continued to push for the equalizer, but couldn’t get one. Katlyn Huntley made four saves in Los Molinos is 23-5-1 on the sea- son. Mercy 23 13 27 19 Maxwell 25 25 25 25 net for Corning, who got aggressive play out of Mason, Diera, Yasmeen Lomeli, Sam Bobadilla and Anna Nel- son. Claudia Lopez, Silvia Diaz and Lanie Fultz played the tandem well and Angelica Ramos shut down Lassen’s leading scorer. TENNIS Red Bluff 4 Oroville 5 The Lady Spartans closed out league play with a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to Oroville. Josie Clements and Meredith Lord picked up singles wins for the Spartans. Clements defeated Callie Quintell 6-3, 6-1 and Lord defeated Loran Newton 6-0, 6-1. The Lady Spartans won two of the three doubles matches as Samantha Clements and Jose Clements defeated Quintell and Anna May Bonniman 10-8 and Dina Menendes and Allie Madi- son defeated Mayci Whiteman and Newton 13-11. Next up for Red Bluff Lady Spartans is the Eastern Athletic League sectionals on Oct. 24, hosted by Las Plumas High School. Los Molinos was held to just 12 rushing yards, but Sean Conrad found success through the air, going 9-for-16 for 234 yards including two touchdowns to brother J.C. Con- rad. J.C. caught four balls for 133 yards and also made an interception. There were 12 sacks in the game. T.J. Larson, Steven Funes, Kevin Garnica, Lance Spencer and Graham Wagenfuhr each had one for the Bulldogs.
