8A – Daily News – Thursday, October 14, 2010 First 5 and residents attempt reading record First 5 Tehama put its read- ing campaign into overdrive by spearheading Tehama County’s participation in an international world record effort to encour- age more than 2 million people to read the same book at the same time. Family resource centers and preschools throughout Tehama County joined the worldwide campaign on Oct. 7 by reading Ezra Jack Keats’ A Snowy Day to families who stopped by to take part in the event. At least 450 children participated at resource centers and preschools across the county, in addition to those reading the book at home. This reading extravaganza was organized to unite the com- munity while highlighting the importance of reading with children. "Reading to and with your children is crucial to their development. Young children who read regularly are better prepared to learn and are more likely to succeed in school," said Denise Snider, executive director of First 5 Tehama. "First 5 Tehama encourages all families to renew their commit- ment to read with their child.
