While there, they worked on team building skills. They met members from other chapters within their region. From the conference, they were able to bring back new activities and leadership ideas. Shelby Murphy, Red Bluff FFA president, said she liked the skits and the team building games from Chico State the best. Courtesy photo Bidwell Elementary School will celebrate its 5th annual Har- vest Carnival 5-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15. The carnival is a family orient- ed community event, which attracts hundreds of families from all over the county. The carnival offers booth games such as ring toss, hole-in- one putting, football throw, pie in face and a dunk tank at which students can dunk teachers and the school principal. Other activ- ities to enjoy include hay rides, cake walk, face painting and raf- fle opportunities sponsored by local families and businesses. A variety of tasty treats, from pizza to cotton candy, will be available. Admission is free. All activi- ties and food require tickets, which are $5 for 25 tickets. Most activities require only 2 tickets. All proceeds benefit the 2010/2011 field trip fund for Bidwell Elementary School stu- dents. The Harvest Carnival is on the school campus at 1256 Wal- nut St., Red Bluff. The building was erected in1858 by the Odd Fellows and is located on the corner of Washington and Oak Streets. Joe Durrer, a fifth gener- ation member of the Tehama County I.O.O.F provided the commission with a guided tour. He also gave a brief history of the local organization. The Odd Fellows is one of the oldest fraternal organizations in the United States, with sev- eral of our Presidents listed among the membership. In 1908 after the San Francisco earth quake the Odd Fellows were the only civilians allowed to go on scene to serve as Search and Rescue teams and the only group Congress would allow to place a wreath at the tomb of an unknown soldier. The main four directives for the Odd Fellows has been to visit the sick, bury the dead, teach the orphans and relieve the distress. The Tehama County Heritage & Historical Records Commission was established in 1974 to foster and promote the preserva- tion of Tehama County his- torical records and to offer advice to the Board of Supervisors relative to his- torical records. Our com- mission is unique in that the Board of Supervisors asked that it also advise and assist with county heritage activi- ties.
