Two of last season’s graduates, Mattie Maloney and Tristen Huntley, will both be playing college field hockey this fall. While their talents will be missed, the Lady Cardi- nals are expecting another strong season and one that could feature a lot of scor- ing. Coach Teresa Lamb likes the strength and skill of for- wards Anna Nelson, Shelby Long and Sam Bobadilla. “Their work ethic and team playing will help to put the ball in the cage,” she said. Juniors Mayra Diera and Shae Mesker will add depth to the position. Not the bull riders, but the Professional Bowlers Association for the 2010 Red Bluff Open, featuring the pros from the West and Northwest regions including Lumber Liquidators national tour champions Chris Warren and Tony Reyes. Bob Rosenau of Redding and Ray Howard of Paradise both qualified through Win A Spot tournaments at Lariat Bowl in July and August and will be competing in the 64-bowler field. Admission is free to all portions of the 3-day event. The tour- nament starts at 3 p.m., Friday, Sept. 17 with the pro practice session. This is a great time to come and watch the pros prac- tice and get autographs and photos of your favorite bowlers. At 6:30 p.m. the pros will join local amateur bowlers as dou- bles partners in the Pro-Am for senior, youth and special needs bowlers. Each amateur will be paired with three different pro- fessionals and compete within their own divisions. Seniors will be bowling for cash prizes, youths for college scholarships and special needs bowlers for medals. The professional qualifying rounds begin at 8 a.m. Sept. 18 with “A” squad bowling eight games. “B” squad will take the lanes at 2 p.m. The pros will be bowling on the PBA National Tour’s “Earl Anthony” lane pattern. As described on the PBA’s web site “This 40 foot pattern has a unique design in which the oil widens, as opposed to narrows, down the lane. The unusual placement of widening oil down the lane will force players to make premium shots from a variety of angles.” Following the pro qualifying and re-conditioning of the lanes for the amateurs at about 7:30 p.m. will be the adult Pro- Am sponsored by Rolling Hills Casino. Adult amateurs will be paired with three pros as doubles partners competing for an estimated $500 first place prize. Businesses who are PBA Boosters or Sponsors receive a free entry into the adult Pro-Am to give to anyone of their choosing. There are spots still available in all of the Pro-Ams. Go online to www.lariatbowl.com to the PBA Regional Page to download Pro-Am flyers. Bowlers can also call 527-2720 or stop by Lar- iat Bowl at 365 S. Main St. to enter. Also during the adult Pro- Am there will be drawings for prizes donated to help raise money for the feeding program at the Vineyard Christian Fel- lowship for the poor and the homeless. Raffle tickets are avail- able from the VCF and at Lariat Bowl for $1 each or 6-for-$5. Prizes include a “Stay and Play” package for four at Rolling Hills and Sevillano Links, 12 Sacramento Kings logo bowling balls donated by PBA Hall of Famer Steve Cook, 2-night stays at the Sands Regency Casino in Reno and a gift from the Gold Exchange to name a few. The pros who survive the first cut will take the lanes at 8 a.m. Sept. 19 for the semi-finals. The next cut will be to the top 16 for best of five matches at 11:30 a.m. with the champion being determined at about 5 p.m. This will be the first PBA event in Red Bluff and Lariat Bowl is urging the entire community to come out and support this event. Lariat Bowl is hoping to have this become an annu- al event and generate the enthusiasm that the Monster Trucks and boat drags have in the past. 3 Ways To Get On: Online events.redbluffdailynews.com/search E-mail nsouza@redbluffdailynews.com Mail PO Box 220, Red Bluff, CA 96080
