Oak Lane Triumph Virginia Kappa | Virginia Tech | Fall 2025 V irginia Kappa has a lot to be proud of for the spring 2025 semester. Several alumni events were held, and the chapter continued its path to success by achieving "Platinum" status in the Fraternity and Sorority Life Standards of Excellence program. CHAPTER SUCCESS Virginia Kappa's academic performance remains the most notable success. The chapter held a 3.4 GPA, ranking No. 2 of 31 in the FSL Council. Ten members (8% of the chapter) achieved a 4.0, and 58 members (47% of the chapter) achieved the dean's list, resulting in 57% of the chapter receiving academic recognition! Forty-three percent of the chapter is engaged in academic research, TA, co-op, study abroad, academic honor societies, and/ or professional/academic organizations! The chapter won the Gamma Phi Beta and Kappa Delta philanthropies, raising over $1,500 for Kappa Delta alone; won the Anchor Splash dance competition, which supports Delta Gamma's Service for Sight philanthropy; and for the third-straight year, won MockRock, a massive dance competition supporting the fight against domestic violence. The chapter held Fil's Feel Good 5K this semester after winning Homecoming, and it was such a smashing success that Virginia Tech's Recreational Sports wants to make it an annual event. Philanthropy has grown to become a cornerstone of our Fraternity. Also of note, Virginia Kappa won the Interfraternity Council's golf tournament! BROTHERHOOD GROWTH Virginia Kappa did a fantastic job with spring recruitment, welcoming 17 incredible new members from 20 bids awarded. The chapter strives to acquire the best men on campus. WELCOMING ELLEN POOLE Virginia Kappa brought nationally known networking expert and author Ellen Poole, VT '86, and Kappa Delta to campus to train the chapter and other FSL organizations on effective networking skills. Generous Virginia Kappa alumni purchased and donated over 50 copies of her book Networking Is Not a Verb, which Ellen autographed and personalized for many chapter attendees. Community-wide events like this support the chapter's SigEp Learning Community goals. RECOGNIZING EXCELLENCE Our endowments continue to support SigEp values through generous alumni support by awarding around $8,000 in scholarships to deserving Virginia Kappa members in spring 2025. Elijah Squires '27 received the Booze Memorial Scholarship ($967), and Stephen Mullert '27 ($2,000), Mason Tatum '28 ($2,000), Elijah Squires ($1,000), Zachary Conti '26 ($1,000), and Matthew Guariano '28 ($1,000) were awarded Thomas Scholarships. Additionally, graduate student brothers Daniel Riddle and CJ Barreiro were selected as '25-'26 VA Kappa Graduate Scholars. CONCLAVE 2025 Three alumni attended the SigEp National Conclave in Tampa, Jay Sage '84, Bill Thomas '72, and Matt Rowe '18, along with undergraduate Kenny Wang '27. ALUMNI EVENTS Over 30 alumni attended the spring football game and the semi-annual Joint Chapter/ AVC Meeting at the Chapter House. Brother John Lawson '75 hosted the alumni and many undergraduates in his Lane Stadium suite/box. Many alumni attended the massive Metallica concert—keep posting alumni photos! Finally, the AVC hosted Virginia Kappa Chapter's 55th Anniversary Banquet at The Inn at VT, where around 120 alumni, spouses and significant others, and 20 undergraduates attended. Brother John Malone '83 organized the Lunch Pail Ventures sponsorship of the cocktail hour on Saturday. The guest speaker was our distinguished alumnus Paul Kennedy '76, who entertained as he reminded everyone of the special love VA Kappa brothers share with one another. An alumni/undergraduate golf tournament was held at the River Course; controversy remains on who won! On Saturday afternoon, the attendees were treated to an amazing campus tour of the Torgorsen Bridge, the Moss Center, and the new Corps of Cadets history museum. Please continue to share via Facebook, text, or email any and all alumni photos! HFF, Ritche Moore '85 Secretary Brothers presenting during VA Kappa's 55th anniversary banquet.
