C oming from Elkton, Virginia, Daniel Riddle '25 was drawn to Virginia Tech for its engineering program. He became very involved in the campus community as a freshman, but after moving off-campus his sophomore year, he felt disconnected. When his roommate, Xander Manzano '25, suggested Daniel check out SigEp, they attended a recruitment event together. "From the moment we walked in, it felt right. There was something about the brotherhood, values, and the overall atmosphere that immediately clicked with me." The Balanced Man Program and SigEp's values of Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love solidified his decision to join. Daniel was involved in every committee during his time in Virginia Kappa. He served twice on the Standards Board and as Phi coordinator, a Voting Committee member, a five-time academic mentor, a four-time sound body mentor, and more. As risk manager, he learned the importance of balancing leadership responsibilities with academics and other commitments. "It instilled a deep sense of responsibility for the safety and well-being of our brothers." As the Balanced Man Scholarship chairman, he worked with the AVC to relaunch the scholarship and led the development and documentation of a restructured scholarship process. Through his and the AVC's work, the chapter hosted the first BMS ceremony in the Chapter House. As Oak Lane house supervisor, Daniel was responsible for ensuring the chapter facility complied with both university and national policies. "This position required me to navigate challenging situations, including having difficult conversations, holding members accountable, and collaborating with the executive board to offer insights on university expectations and procedures." Outside of SigEp, Daniel was involved with intramural sports, the Undergraduate Student Senate, and Order of Omega, and is currently a governor in the American Nuclear Society. "Throughout my time in SigEp, I've learned from many brothers whose examples and guidance helped shape me into the person I am today." Early in his membership, he was a part of Virginia Kappa's academic plan, and his upperclassman mentor, Gaven Connor '26, helped him improve his academic performance by encouraging him to strive for excellence and holding him to a high standard. Later, Courts Breeden '23, took the time to walk Daniel through the basics of graduate school at Virginia Tech and inspired him to apply. "This past year, Courts connected me with a research opportunity that ultimately set me on the path toward pursuing a master's degree." Daniel recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and will be pursuing a master's in nuclear engineering at Virginia Tech. This summer, he's interning with Framatome in Lynchburg. Daniel appreciates SigEp's strong and supportive alumni network. "I plan to take full advantage of that network as I continue my academic and professional journey, especially as I move into graduate studies and look ahead to a career in the nuclear engineering field." What made this victory so meaningful was the journey it took to get there. Two seasons ago, we made it all the way to the finals, only to lose in the sudden-death round in heartbreaking fashion: being disqualified for going out of bounds. That loss stuck with us. It became a motivator, not just to win but also to come back stronger, more focused, and more unified. When we finally won the title this season, it marked SigEp's first intramural championship since before I joined the chapter in fall 2022. The moment was about more than just a trophy—it represented resilience, brotherhood, and a shared commitment to seeing something through."
