Best of Luck in Your Endeavors Congratulations, Seniors! W hile Beta Omicron Chapter faced its share of struggles, John Sheppard, Iowa State '16 put in the effort through various leadership roles. He helped bring Derby Days back to ISU, and as a self- appointed alumni relations chairman, he worked hard to regrow alumni engagement with the Chapter. Fraternal Influence After college, John moved back home to St. Louis to focus on his career and family. In recent years, he found his way back to the fraternity through the St. Louis alumni group; now he's Xi Xi's new Chapter Advisor! "Meeting devoted Brothers like Dave Knight '73 and (Missouri Province Grand Praetor) Rob Westrich, Saint Louis '85 helped me find my love for Sigma Chi again," John said. "I knew I wanted to get involved again but wasn't sure how. Then, when Rob sent out an email looking for a Chapter advisor, I instantly jumped at the opportunity." John's father, Fred, Iowa State '64, helped instill in him the values of volunteering and giving back. John strove to embrace those even more after his father's passing, and reconnecting with Sigma Chi has helped him do exactly that. A Positive Future John's goal as an advisor is to help build Xi Xi into the Chapter he knows it can be, restoring it as a top fraternity at Mizzou. So far, the Brothers are proving they might not need his help with that. "The undergraduates have really impressed me so far. From day one, I have seen nothing but the best from these young men and have no doubt they will continue to strive for excellence," John said. "The Chapter is in great hands with these Brothers, and I see them making Sigma Chi prominent on campus for many years to come." Personal Life John began his professional life as an officer for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department as well as the United States Army. He served eight years in the Army Reserves, including time overseas, until the end of his contract in 2024. He then made the switch to firefighter/ paramedic and also teaches future EMTs and paramedics at St. Louis Community College. In his limited free time, John can often be found with his 5-year-old daughter, Avery, his fiancée, Kaitlyn, or playing ice hockey and hanging out with friends.
