Building a Sustainable Future for Xi Xi The The Tiger Sig Published by the Xi Xi ChaPter alumni assoCiation of sigma Chi fraternity COLUMBIA, MISSOURI SPRING 2025 Y our House Corp board and Xi Xi Chapter are busy with preparations to move back into our grand Chapter House at 500 S. College in August! As we make this transition, knowing we have made "comebacks" before, many alumni have asked a great question: "So what's going to be different with Xi Xi this time?" The short answer is: a lot. Here's what we're talking about: A New Day A fresh start with all new Brothers, involved alumni, and support from the University, Sigma Chi International, and regional Sigma Chi officers. Yes, we have had fresh starts before, but we have learned from them and are using what we learned to rebuild Xi Xi in a sustainable way. A Changed University Administration Mizzou now has an administration that has proven to be very supportive of the Greek system over the last five years. A dynamic president and chancellor, Mun Choi, a new dean, and a new director of fraternity and sorority life. We have worked hard to build a relationship with all of them to be more collaborative and supportive. A New Greek Support Organization A strong and active fraternity alumni organization: The Mizzou Greek Alliance (MGA). We have been a part of this group for the last three years. Its purpose is to collectively improve fraternity relations and operations with the University. This is the strongest presence and force that fraternities have had at Mizzou in 50 years. A New Relationship with Sigma Chi HQ New Sigma Chi International (HQ) support and resources. HQ staff and officers have been with us through every step in our comeback. They have put trained experts on campus to help recruit new members and advise the Chapter development. Sigma Chi has the best leadership training program of all Greek organizations, and our actives have been enthusiastic beneficiaries of that training. A New Perspective A revised perspective for Xi Xi alumni and undergraduate leaders. We have learned not to go it alone as just Xi Xi. To stay strong, we need to be aligned with Sigma Chi HQ, the University, and the campus community. Open communications, shared resources, and symbiotic relationships will build enduring strength. A New Xi Xi Alumni Organization The HC focuses on the property and financing. Now we also have an Alumni Advisory Board to support the Chapter directly and guide it. These alumni Brothers are assigned to work one-on-one with the Chapter officers and are led by the Chapter advisor and the Regional Grand Praetor for HQ. This is a crucial separation of alumni involvement that will be much more effective and rewarding to our alumni who serve. A New House Director Position A new house director role—an experienced professional property manager who, with the HC directly, is responsible for the physical operation of our property and the safety and wellness of the Chapter. The director will also develop and follow a short- term and long-term house maintenance plan to keep the systems and structure of the house in operational condition before breakdowns occur. New Financing Purpose We will not be raising money to remodel, expand, or rebuild the house. Yes, we need funding to keep the house in condition that we can be proud of. But our more crucial needs now will be to retire the mortgage, establish a "sinking account" to address any major repairs or replacements, and to rebuild scholarship funding to attract and retain the best and the brightest. A New Chapter Vision A renewed vision of our undergraduate Chapter dedicated to the values of Sigma Chi. They lead recruiting with an appeal to young men who want to become transitional leaders. "Quality not quantity," is the mantra. Together, we are not trying to get as many members as possible. We will limit the number of undergraduates living in the house to the 50-60 range, which is much more manageable than the larger numbers we have experienced in the past. Thanks for Asking! Thank you for caring enough to read this! What is not different is the proud and treasured history and tradition of Xi Xi. Change has been difficult, but the foundation of Sigma Chi at Mizzou remains strong and worthy of our efforts now and in the future. IHSV, Dave Knight '73 We're Coming Home We're Coming Home with a Fresh New Start with a Fresh New Start "Holding the flag after completing the St. Jude Memphis Marathon reminded me why Sigma Chi is more than just a fraternity. It's a mindset of high ambition and courage, combined with leadership and higher expectations for ourselves and our brothers." –Harmon Colvett '25 #flagfriDay #sigmachi
