P H I K A P PA TAU 2 Grateful for Alpha Chi Tim Little '17 Discusses Fraternal Development, Career Experiences F or many Phi Tau brothers, the fraternity experience lasts long beyond their college years. Tim Little '17 gained immense pride when he joined Alpha Chi Chapter, and he gladly promotes the brotherhood's ongoing success through Board of Governors involvement alongside his engineering career. Finding Phi Tau Tim wanted a close-knit group for a sense of community on campus when he started considering Greek life at Mississippi State University. Phi Kappa Tau had a welcoming presence, full of diverse members who promoted mutual success and honest conversations. "Some of my fondest memories are those made in the left field lounge," Tim said. "Nothing can compare to manning the grill on a big weekend series, as the rig is shoulder to shoulder. I loved to grill hamburgers and hot dogs for brothers and guests while cheering State on." Whether the brothers were cleaning up the courtyard or planning for philanthropy events, they always maintained a sense of responsibility that helped Tim understand his role in the chapter. His sense of fraternal accountability has since helped Tim in his engineering career ventures beyond college. Exploring Space Simulation Tim completed a co-op program with NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville as a sophomore. There, he worked with top aerospace engineers on space simulation testing, propulsion, and optics. That opportunity led to Tim's position as a civil servant at MSFC after he graduated from MSU. As a test engineer in space simulation, Tim's team focuses on thermal and cryogenic vacuum testing. His role involved operating and maintaining high-pressure systems, designing and manufacturing test support equipment, and conducting test programs. "My long-term goal is to lead a test lab like the facility I operate in now." Tim's engineering team is working on the Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe, a mission to investigate the heliosphere. They are preparing for launch later this year by conducting the satellite's final thermal vacuum test. "Being hands-on with space flight hardware is a dream come true," he added. For aspiring undergraduate engineers, he encourages them to seek real-world experiences and opportunities to get involved in labs, manufacturing plants, and throughout the engineering field. Staying Engaged Beyond his career work, Tim stays busy with Alpha Chi's Board of Governors to oversee chapter philanthropy efforts. He enjoys staying involved with Phi Tau, and Tim maintains regular contact with several fellow alumni. In his spare time, Tim stays active through outdoor activities like disc golf, hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, and running after work. He also spends plenty of time with his dog when he isn't working on renovations for the house he purchased in 2023. You can connect with Tim at tjlittle98@gmail.com. "I felt proud to be a part of something larger than myself." I t is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to one of our own—John Johnson '64, a beloved member of Phi Kappa Tau in Ridgeland, Mississippi.
