Scholarship Chairman Kashal Palem '23 set up this award to recognize brothers who have shown exceptional growth and used their skills to be better students and brothers. Delta Kappa Reclaims TRUE MERIT AWARD A Chapter of Principle I had the pleasure of serving as chapter advisor for three years. Little did I realize what I had actually signed up for. My first chapter meeting as the advisor occurred a few weeks before the world shut down due to COVID-19. This was a truly unprecedented time for the fraternity and the country. You may wonder how you can recruit 70 young high school seniors to a house without being able to meet them in person, yet the chapter tackled this challenge without issue. They continue to show innovation in all facets of the house and continue to be the envy of other houses. I was also fortunate enough to be a part of an exciting time for the house as old-guard board A Bright Future for Delta Kappa DEVOTED ALUMNI MAKE A DIFFERENCE leadership was turned over to a new generation. James Benson '07 and John Esche '08 have worked relentlessly to build on what came before them and overhaul the chapter and alumni relations. I personally witnessed this younger leadership spark excitement in the chapter and alumni base. James' emphasis on seeing the chapter improve academically and increase philanthropic efforts helped end the draught of True Merit awards. Meanwhile, John has been working to increase excitement in the alumni base by focusing on meetups and a mentorship program. If you are looking for a way to give back to the house, the mentorship program is the perfect low-stress way to do so. Please reach out if you have any questions about the program. The house continues to thrive in recruiting, academics, and philanthropic efforts. With Shaq Harris '14 now taking the helm as chapter advisor, I know the house will continue its positive trajectory. I worked alongside Shaq for two years and know him to be a kind, patient, and calming presence in the controlled chaos that is a college fraternity. I know he will tackle all the unique challenges that arise with poise. Fraternally, James B.
