BETA RAYS A PUBLICATION OF BETA SIGMA PSI AT PURDUE UNIVERSITY WINTER 2025 InsIde: ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT 2 REUNITED THROUGH FAITH 2 REFLECTIONS 3 CONTACT INFO UPDATE 4 T hanks to all who attended the Homecoming meeting this year. We had a nice turnout, mostly from younger alumni, for the meeting as well as partnering in fellowship through the rest of the day. Game schedule time changes for TV continue to make it difficult to settle on the program for the day. ALUMNI PLANNING At the alumni meeting, two new members were elected to the board of the Lafayette Alumni Chapter: John Nichols '81 and Luke Passino '20. Thanks to Jake Allen '77 and Mark Kramer '80, whose terms expired, for their commitment to the Fraternity and their years of service on the board. Items discussed included the status of the kitchen/dining room remodel project. Academic scholarships were also a big item of discussion. Approximately 30 brothers received academic scholarships from Educational Foundation funds this year. This is a significant change to awarding scholarships, but the objective is to provide incentives for improving grades. This outlay of Educational Foundation funds will require us to request gifts from alumni to replenish funding for scholarships. KITCHEN/DINING ROOM RENOVATION The final house renovations that need to be completed are the kitchen and dining room areas. Alumni have been working to get an idea of what the project scope and time frame will look like. We appreciate the excellent work of the renovation committee under the direction of Mark Kramer over the last year. Their effort laid the foundation for the next steps to fully develop plans and cost estimates for the project. Thanks to committee members Dan Kramer '78, Mark Kramer, Mike Schaefer '80, John Nichols, Bruce Senter III '21, Cayden Faley, and Matt Millies '22. Jay Kammeyer '82, who has extensive experience in construction, volunteered to take over and refine the subcommittee's work. Many thanks to Jay for taking on this project and generating a more meaningful scope and project cost estimate. Jay's preliminary estimate for the project is approximately $290,000. This is a large amount for us to raise with alumni, so we will be looking carefully at ways to mitigate costs (without cutting corners). One large item in Jay's estimate is new kitchen equipment, which is estimated to be almost 25% of the project cost. We believe it may be possible to purchase lightly used kitchen equipment to reduce that number. Our cook, Dan, was recently able to buy new steam tables at a very good price of pennies on the dollar compared to new equipment. Other ideas include conducting work sessions with undergraduates and alumni. We've conducted a few of these over the past few years, and the results in completed work and bonding have been fantastic. Please watch your mailbox and email early this year for more information on this project and how you can help us make these improvements a reality. Fraternally, Mark Kramer '80 Facilities Director Lafayette Alumni Chapter PREPARING FOR BETA'S FUTURE Homecoming Meeting and House Projects Our cook, Dan, acquired these steam tables for $150 at auction!
