Page 2 Beta Rays L ooking back on his Beta Sigma Psi experience, Chris Ristich '04 appreciates how Beta Chapter helped him become the man he is today. Thanks to his brother, National President Rudy Ristich '01, Chris stays involved with the Fraternity as national treasurer. THE BEST A FRATERNITY CAN BE "My brother was already a member and encouraged me to join as a live-in freshman," Chris said. Despite initial skepticism, he quickly learned the true meaning of fraternal brotherhood and was proud to grow alongside fellow members. "Our brotherhood is strong and rooted in our faith, we excelled in academics and supported the church and community." Though he wasn't much of a leader before college, Chris took on new responsibilities and learned how to lead while serving two terms as treasurer and two as Chapter president. His service earned him Beta Chapter's Schmidt Award for Outstanding Active and the Erck Award for Outstanding Active in the national Fraternity. PERSONAL GROWTH Chris' interest in business and technology led to him working for United Airlines as a revenue management analyst after college. He currently serves as a director in information technology for Hawaiian Airlines, leading IT teams to support the company's revenue systems. "Before I joined United, I had never set foot on an airplane, but I've now been to 30 states and more than 13 countries across six continents." In his adult life, Chris has defied his own odds by earning his pilot's license and finishing two marathons. "One of my favorite memories is my first solo flight, which was from Chicago to Purdue. Like learning to fly, running a marathon seemed impossible, so it was something I wanted to challenge myself to do." SERVING HIS BROTHERS When Beta Sigma Psi's treasurer announced his retirement, Rudy asked Chris to fill the role. He always had an interest in serving the national Fraternity, and Chris is glad to put his professional skills to use for the organization that helped him grow during college. Chris' daily responsibilities include managing the Fraternity's books, tracking income and expenses, monitoring and forecasting cash flow, invoicing Chapters for dues, and paying bills. These tasks contribute toward the Fraternity's long-term financial health and stability so that Beta Sigma Psi can meet its goals for years to come. Aside from national involvement, Chris served on the Beta Chapter alumni board for five years after graduation. Living in Hawaii poses a challenge in reconnecting with brothers, but he is glad to maintain some contact through Facebook and text messages. Chris and his wife, Catherine, met through United and have been married for almost 12 years. They enjoy spending time with their two young daughters, Sofia and Elena, by going hiking or visiting the beach. The family is also active in a local church where Chris volunteers as a director on the church board. You can connect with him at chris.ristich@gmail.com. "I cherish the memories and lifelong brothers I gained during my time at Beta Chapter."
