XI TIMES NEWSLETTER of Xi Chapter of Psi Upsilon at Wesleyan University WINTER 2025 Left: Brothers from all eras make new memories during the 2024 Homecoming festivities. Right: Tailgates with the Xi are always unforgettable. Join the fun this October! A n impressive turnout of Xi alumni, spanning seven decades and including undergraduate brothers, family, and friends, gathered at Wesleyan on a beautiful autumn day for Homecoming 2024. Attendees witnessed a historic Little Three Championship win in football, and they experienced the full measure of festive fraternal bonds while tailgating and celebrating post-game at the Xi's landmark Chapter House. In keeping with tradition, Homecoming at the Xi began with a mid-morning Chapter meeting attended by a large contingent of alumni and undergraduates. Archon Cate Baldwin '26 delivered remarks highlighting the many impressive undergraduate accomplishments, including academic awards, campus leadership positions, athletic honors, and community service activities. The Chapter House is fully occupied, the Chapter's operating budget is healthy, the brothers recruited a strong fall pledge class (with another class already planned for recruitment this spring), relations with the university administration are good, and engagement between the Xi undergraduates and alumni is robust. After singing the "Shrine Song" following the Chapter meeting, brothers old and young gathered on the first floor to honor Phil Calhoun '62 with the Bishop Welch Award for lifelong leadership for Wesleyan and society. The Chapter House glistened in the autumn sunlight after a thorough pre-Homecoming cleaning by the undergraduates. The Chapter meeting, award ceremony, football game tailgate party, and post-game reception at the Xi all offered opportunities for attendees to learn more about the state of the Xi and the need for a comprehensive renovation of our historic chapter house. Brothers were briefed on the creation of a new 501(c)(3) charitable foundation called the William Kerr Leadership and Historic Preservation Society Corporation, which is fully approved and dedicated to maintaining and preserving the historic Chapter House at 242 High Street—a national historic landmark built in 1891 which has decades of deferred maintenance and many fine details that need to be updated and restored. This new foundation will provide a tax-free way for brothers to support the house in perpetuity to ensure Wesleyan students have an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of historic preservation in a self-governed organization that fosters leadership development. The emotional highlight of the day was the football game against Williams. On a seasonably warm and dry day, Cardinals fans were treated to a last-second, come-from-behind, winning touchdown pass by the home team. The dramatic victory clinched a third consecutive Little Three Championship for the Cardinals for the first time since the 1940s. The win also set the stage for the football team's first-ever NESCAC championship, earned the following Saturday at Trinity. Congratulations to the Wesleyan Cardinals football team, including brothers Anthony Crossman '26 (#49) and Jay Watson '27 (#12). Homecoming football game fans were treated to a sumptuous buffet tailgate lunch and party located a few steps from Corbin Field with an excellent view of the gridiron action. Thanks to Larosa's Market in Hartford for delivering 18 cubic feet of assorted Italian grinders, which were happily devoured by brothers old and young. Special thanks to Alexander Macaulay '88 for bartending. Brothers and guests adjourned to 242 High Street for a joyous post-game reception with entertainment from Evan Drutman '86 and his jazz band featuring Professor Stuart Gillmor. After the live jazz concluded, the undergraduates showed off their impressive sound system by playing Steely Dan's "My Old School" and other classic hits still treasured across the generations. It was a memorable day indeed! Mark your calendar for October 25, 2025, and make plans to join us for Wesleyan Homecoming at the Xi, where (in the immortal words of Steely Dan's Donald Fagan and Walter Becker): "You go back, Jack, do it again…" Yours in the Bonds, Chip Nottingham '88 2024 Wesleyan Homecoming Recap A Day to Remember
