3 KAPPA ALPHA THETA 10.75" C oming from a small town in Missouri, Julie Gibson '92 didn't know anyone at Mizzou except for Jennifer Tiller Koehn '92, who prepared Julie for recruitment. At Theta, Julie found people who shared her values, and she felt at home. Alpha Mu Chapter was comprised of women who were involved in organizations and doing important work on campus. The members held themselves to a high standard, and there was a culture of excellence and performance. "We were proud of being good at all the things that we were good at," Julie shared. "That's something that matched my values, and it's something I've carried with me over my career." The women of Alpha Mu also came from different backgrounds and brought different perspectives to the table. Learning to live with and build relationships with her sisters and to have an open mind are skills she gained that helped her as she built her career and have continued to serve her as a leader. Julie is the chief marketing officer of Lockton. Though she didn't know that insurance was an interesting industry, she discovered that it's diverse and dynamic, and she has had a wonderful experience working for the company. "I got to join and reimagine the brand and sort of build a global marketing communications function from scratch in a really empowering environment. It's been like the dream job and opportunity of a lifetime." Julie was named to a global leadership team about a year ago, and she is the only woman on the team. She serves on the Spencer Educational Foundation, which is dedicated to the insurance industry from a higher education standpoint. The foundation gives grants to colleges and universities that have risk management programs, has a scholarship program, and supports students who are pursuing futures in the insurance industry. "It's been a really rewarding experience getting to know students and introducing them to the industry." Julie has a blended family with three stepchildren and two children. Allie McInerney '16 is a Mizzou Theta and resides in New York. Jack McInerney is a Mizzou Beta and in his second year of law school at Wake Forest. Maggie McInerney is a senior at the University of Chicago. 15-year-old twins Gibson and Catherine are sophomores at Shawnee Mission East. She has two golden doodles, Millie and Sunny, whom she loves. Julie is a Chiefs, Royals, and Mizzou fan. She loves to needlepoint and do Pilates. One of her sorority sisters recently introduced her to Mahjong, and now Julie has a Theta Mahjong group. While Julie doesn't see or talk to her sisters every day, there's an immediate reconnection and familiarity when they see each other again. She and her Theta friends get together every summer. Last year, they attended the Cotton Bowl in Dallas and celebrated a Mizzou win together. CONNECT WITH JULIE AT jugibson@lockton.com.
