Friday, August 16, 2013 – Daily News 5A FEATURES Fights with daughter-in-law Most people exposed to HPV never develop symptoms to relax your standards a bit? Can you stop picking up after your husband? Could you save the housecleaning for weekends and make it a joint effort? Sometimes, this is simply a matter of disorganization, in which case a list and a reminder might work. You cannot force your husband to grow up, but you can help him understand that this type of issue will erode a marriage over time, making one partner resentful and turning the other into a recalcitrant child. He needs to step up. Dear Annie: I, too, have suffered from depression all my life. It took courage to finally seek help, because you think you're ''crazy'' and fear the stigma of admitting something is wrong. I thought the gap between where I was and being ''normal' was as wide as the Grand Canyon. In fact, it's only as wide as a couple of pills. It took a few tries before I found the medication that works best for me. Once I ''came out,'' I discovered that several people I work with are also on antidepressants or anti-anxiety medication. — Been There, Too. vaccines are DEAR DOCTOR recommended K: A famous actor have received recently said he got the vaccine. throat cancer from oral Nevertheless, a sex. My husband and I tried therapy with my son and daughter-in-law, but it made things worse. I left, saying that I am not happy with either of them and I just want to see my grandchildren. My son said that if I don't continue with therapy, I won't see the kids again. They are using the children as weapons to control us. I told her she didn't like us from Day One. She told me she doesn't trust me. My new granddaughter had a baptism, and my daughter-in-law told us it was an occasion only for her family. We were insulted and hurt. I'm thinking of going to court and suing for grandparents' rights. — Trustworthy Dear Trustworthy: Your son and his wife may not be behaving in a kind Mailbox or loving way, but there is room for improvement on both sides. They are willing to go for counseling to resolve this, which is a good sign. But walking out of a counseling session because you don't like what you hear is not productive. The point of counseling is to work through the issues that get in the way of a better relationship. Please stop trying to get your son to favor you over his wife. It won't happen. The more you blame her the more defensive they both will be. If you want to be in his life and see those grandkids, we urge you to agree to go back for counseling and really work on it with an open mind. Dear Annie: I recently married a man who is quite wonderful, but he won't help out around the house. We have a child together, and I am the breadwinner. When I'm not working, I'm cleaning the house and picking up after him. Once in a while, he may do a chore or two, but that's it. We've had many talks about this, and he always agrees to do things when I ask. But I still come home from work and find nothing done, and he has plenty of excuses. He will be 30 soon. He was not raised this way, and his mother has tried to help, but we can't seem to make any progress. What can I do? This is driving me insane — Maid on Demand and Sick of It Dear Maid: Can you afford periodic cleaning help? 'Call of Duty: Ghosts': 5 ways it's different LOS ANGELES (AP) — ''Call of Duty: Ghosts'' is conjuring new ways to play online. Female characters, interactive maps, canine sidekicks and a knucklebiting intense mode dubbed ''cranked'' are among the new additions deploying to the multiplayer mode of the popular military first-person shooter franchise when ''Ghosts'' is released for both current and nextgeneration consoles Nov. 5. ''Call of Duty'' publisher Activision Blizzard Inc. detailed the complex multiplayer mode, which includes 30 new weapons and more fluid movement, during a Wednesday showcase. ''I think the biggest difference is going to be the dynamic maps,'' said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, backstage at the event in downtown Los Angeles. ''It really changes the game for the better. You not only have to learn how the maps are laid out and where the best hiding spots and vantage points are located, but you also have to figure out how they can be used for you or against you.'' Here are five ways the online mode for this ''Call of Duty'' will be different from its predecessors: GIRL POWER For the first time in the 9-year history of ''Call of Duty,'' multiplayer combatants can choose to portray a female soldier on the front line. It's one of 20,000 possible customization options when it comes to creating an online avatar in ''Ghosts.'' Other personalization possibilities include selecting the race, body type, gear and AP photo/Activision/Infinity Ward This undated publicity photo released by Activision/Infinity Ward shows a scene from the video game, "Call of Duty: Ghosts." "Call of Duty: Ghosts" is summoning new ways to play the first-person shooter online. Female characters, interactive maps, canine sidekicks and a new mode called "cranked" are among the new additions coming to the popular shoot-'em-up franchise's multiplayer mode when the game is released this fall. clothing of virtual characters. MAP QUEST The battlefield won't always be stable in ''Ghosts.'' The developers have added several interactive tricks that can dramatically alter the maps in the game's multiplayer mode. Some are as simple as a closed door with the ability to block access to a secret hideaway, while others are as explosive as a gas station that can obliterate nearby foes if ignited. DIRTY DOG Riley, the geared-up German shepherd who appears in the singleplayer campaign, will leap into the multiplayer mode as one of 20 new ''killstreak'' rewards earned when players take down the opposition and complete objectives. The canine companion will growl when enemies approach, scout out the battlefield and take out baddies who come too close. CRANK AND FILE There are seven new multiplayer modes coming to ''Ghosts,'' including the cooperative ''search and rescue'' and ''squad'' installments, but the most intense new way to play ''Call of Duty'' online is called ''cranked.'' For each kill, a player's reload and movement speeds are amped up, but if a 30-second countdown clock reaches zero, they spontaneously combust. HEAR ME NOW The developers have enhanced the game's sound effects with details that more closely resemble the real world. For example, gun shots fired in a large metalfilled warehouse sound different from those in a small carpeted room. The chatter during battle has also been fleshed out with teammates who call out when grenades go off or enemies appear near landmarks.
