T H E I N D I A N A G R A M INDIANA GAMMA CHAPTER OF SIGMA ALPHA EPSILON AT INDIANA UNIVERSITY WINTER 2025 Brothers gather for the Indiana University Dance Marathon. Their efforts successfully raised $2,275 for Riley Children's Hospital. I t is an honor to serve as Sigma Alpha Epsilon's 16th eminent supreme recorder; I have so much reverence for this office and am fully aware of the responsibility associated with this role. The True Gentleman has guided me from my time as the eminent archon of ΣΑΕ's Indiana Gamma Chapter to my most recent role as president and CEO of the ΣΑΕ Foundation. Like many members, my life and career trajectory would have been very different without ΣΑΕ. I would not be who I am today had it not been for this organization and its tremendous influence on my life. When I met with the Supreme Council, I shared that I want to focus on four things: • Collegiate membership and retention • Risk management • Leadership development and educational programming • Alumni engagement Moving forward, we plan to run the organization more like a business. Prior to serving as president and CEO of ΣΑΕ Foundation, I served in multiple vice president of sales roles for AT&T, responsible for billions in both sales and service revenue. At the Fraternity Service Center, we have realigned our undergraduate chapter coverage model to focus on chapter size versus geography. This new model allows us to place our most experienced consultants with our largest chapters. Now, these chapter consultants will have fewer chapters, making it possible for them to visit their chapters proactively multiple times a year versus once a year, providing more guidance and support while better addressing health and safety concerns. We have also embarked on a proactive health and safety plan to protect our undergraduate members better. Working hand in hand with Favor, our insurance carrier, we continue to enhance our current program. As part of the plan, we have proactively reached out to each chapter to conduct virtual meetings emphasizing the importance of making good choices and being our brother's keeper. John Hatfield, Kansas State '77 will visit chapters to proactively promote cultural change, preventing incidents instead of just responding to incidents. While we have taken steps to support our undergraduate chapters better, long gone are the days when one person, or even two, can successfully provide the guidance required for a chapter to be successful. It takes a team. We all hold a special place in our hearts for our chapter because it often shaped who we are today, providing us opportunities to learn, grow, and develop important life skills. My ask is that you reengage with the chapter by providing your time, treasure, and talent. Fraternally, Steve Mitchell '83 Eminent Supreme Recorder and Chief Executive Officer Taking Steps to Better Support Our Undergraduate Chapters IMPROVING ΣΑΕ IMPROVING ΣΑΕ T his semester, our chapter has made strides in philanthropy, academics, and brotherhood. The newly elected, sophomore-led executive council has recognized the importance of taking responsibility for an unsustainable prior status quo and has already begun enacting positive change, thanks to the guidance from the ΣΑΕ National Fraternity Chapter Services team during our redevelopment retreat (August 29–September 1). We are deeply appreciative of their support and look forward to continuing to work together. The executive council has set a renewed focus for the second semester, which includes improving our GPA, expanding our philanthropic efforts, and strengthening brotherhood through dedicated brother-to-brother lessons at chapter. We are committed to continue improving our academic standing, as our house GPA increased to 3.28 compared to 3.20 a year ago, with a long- term goal of surpassing the median GPA of 3.32 for male undergraduates at IU.
