A H O M E AWAY F R O M H O M E Letter from Our Housemother W e began our 120th year with 132 new members, and it's always exciting to see new faces and get to know the freshmen each year. The house is bustling with 58 seniors and six juniors and sophomores living in it, and we're already full for next year! We're thrilled that the tradition of seniors living in the house continues. This summer, we added a beautiful fountain to our patio, enhancing the space alongside the large planters filled with palms and ferns added in recent years. The patio has become a perfect spot for dining, studying, and hanging out. Another exciting update is the new soft drink fountain in our kitchen— Diet Coke has been the most requested item since I arrived in 2019. Meal service remains a vital part of our members' experience, and our kitchen staff does an excellent job preparing delicious, healthy meals. Follow us on Instagram at @KDKuisine to see some of our incredible food! I'm at the house every day, so feel free to reach out with any questions. Parents are welcome to visit the house with their daughters whenever they're in town. Alumnae are also invited—just let us know when you'd like to schedule a visit! Barbra Harrison Housemother bfharrison1@ua.edu O ne of Zeta Chapter's signature events is the Shamrock Run 5K, which raises funds for our child abuse prevention philanthropies. In 2024, the Shamrock Run raised $105,450 for Prevent Child Abuse America, Child Abuse Prevention Services of Tuscaloosa, and the Children's Trust Fund of America, helping these organizations provide essential resources, staffing, and education. It was a wonderful weekend spent with our members, their parents, and in support of such a meaningful cause! Throughout the year, our Chapter holds several events with local Girl Scout troops. Each semester, we help the Girl Scouts earn badge requirements, such as the sewing or nature badges. As Girl Scouts is a Kappa Delta national philanthropy, this gives us the opportunity to teach young girls in our community important life skills and confidence- building—a core Kappa Delta value. Zeta Chapter also hosts monthly dinners and parties with CrossingPoints, a program for UA students with intellectual disabilities pursuing a college education. Our biggest event with them is CrossingPoints Prom, co-hosted with Alpha Tau Omega every spring. It's always a joy to see the students arrive in limousines, dressed in gowns and suits, and spend the night dancing together! During the Shamrock Run, the Girl Scouts sell cookies, and CrossingPoints students cheer us on and hand out water, tying all our philanthropies together. It's truly rewarding to have a Chapter so supportive of these wonderful causes!
