I rotated through various departments including shadowing, pharmacy, intake, and vitals, where I gained hands-on clinical experience in diverse medical settings. In addition, I participated in educational days, visiting local schools and churches to discuss public health and preventative measures. Similarly, I was able to engage in cultural exchange days to learn about the local culture of Jarabacoa. Lastly, I served as a social media ambassador, creating engaging reels to raise awareness for VAW Global's activities and cultural experiences. This internship opened my eyes to the lives of those in developing countries, and I feel grateful to be able to take part in this journey and impact lives for the better. Logan Hibshman '27 This summer, I began my job as a patient care assistant at UF Health Shands Hospital. In my role, I float to different units in the hospital, including the intensive care unit, oncology/surgical oncology, pediatrics, emergency department, neurology unit, and varying medical-surgery floors. My role varies from floor to floor, but it usually consists of receiving reports and rounding on patients when I first arrive, taking vital signs and glucose levels depending on their orders, aiding patient hygiene and perineal care, assisting in mobility, inputting/taking out various forms of catheters, removing IV lines, bladder scanning, charting, and other varying tasks. This is a fulfilling role that I hope will one day prepare me for my future as a physician. Sam Wright '26 This summer, I had the privilege of working in business analytics at HCA Healthcare's corporate office in Nashville, Tennessee, through their Information Technology Group Pathways program, which introduces college students to IT careers in healthcare. I was assigned to the HCA Surgery Ventures Group, a division overseeing over 160 same-day surgery centers nationwide. My initial project, focused on documenting and generating reports for a new electronic medical records platform, quickly highlighted the complexities of corporate business when the initiative was delayed by a year. This shift pushed me to pivot, working on smaller, impactful projects—from surgical billing analysis, where I identified an estimated $2.7 million in recoverable underbill, to workflow automation aimed at speeding up repetitive business tasks. While these projects were rewarding, I realized that healthcare may not be my long-term career path. However, I am incredibly grateful for the experience and insights gained during my 12-week tenure and am eager to explore new industries and opportunities within the data analytics field. Jared Dimsdale '25 During my time at Stonemont Financial in Atlanta, Georgia, I was able to experience what it is like to work in the world of commercial development and had the opportunity to meet many influential people along the way. Throughout the internship process, I supported the transaction and development team by conducting comprehensive market research through the use of CoStar. Additionally, I learned the basics of underwriting and modeling a potential real estate investment opportunity along with existing portfolio assets through Excel. One of my proudest moments at the end of the internship was having the ability to present an entire underwriting that I created of three industrial-sized warehouses totaling 903,701 sq. ft. to the entire company along with the investment committee. I will forever be grateful for spending my summer with Stonemont and all the great connections and relationships I have made throughout this journey.
