F lorida Alpha Chapter's rich history includes countless alumni committed to bettering the Sigma Phi Epsilon brotherhood. Brett Ogilvie '86 had a tremendous undergraduate experience as SigEp became a top Fraternity at UF, and he is grateful to play a role in planning the Chapter's centennial celebration. Brett's Background As a young man from Orlando, Brett joined SigEp during his freshman year in 1981. He gained leadership experience as recruitment chairman and for two years as Chapter president, followed by UF Senate presidency and being the associate producer of Gator Growl. "I learned how to work with so many different types of people, motivate people, and make things happen," Brett added. He carried those leadership lessons into a 15-year career with Arthur Andersen (later Accenture) before retiring as full partner. Brett went on to do technology consulting work for North Highland. alumni involvement Brett knew he wanted to stay engaged with SigEp beyond college and support the Fraternity's future. Undergraduate positions prepared him to lead as Alumni Board President and later vice president of housing, through which he Brett Ogilvie '86 on Fraternal Connections, Centennial Planning Organizing the Celebration of a Century Brothers at the Balanced Man Banquet. directed house renovations and helped the Chapter recharter at UF. Brett's alumni service also included board membership for the Florida Alpha Educational Foundation. "I thought I was finally done when the call came asking if I would help run the Florida Alpha 100-year celebration," he said. Brett joined the committee of more than 10 dedicated alumni, who are planning a momentous reunion in March 2025. setting the centennial stage The centennial gathering will be an excellent chance for alumni to commemorate 100 years of brotherhood, and Brett's committee is working diligently to ensure an enjoyable event. While time and money remain a challenge, the planning committee is glad to find time for SigEp in their busy schedules to put on an amazing event. "We are looking for some event sponsors if any of our alumni brothers would like to sponsor the hospitality suite at the Hotel, the Friday night cocktail event at the house, or help fund some special events at the Saturday gala." Brett advises alumni to book their hotel rooms as soon as possible since other UF events are occurring around the same time. SigEp's centennial registration page is now live, so check out details and reserve a room at flalpha.org/100. "This is an amazing opportunity to connect with brothers you have not seen for years while learning about our history and how the Chapter has grown," Brett mentioned. Attendees ages 18 to 92 will represent 74 years of SigEp history at UF while celebrating the future of Florida Alpha. "We expect a large attendance. Get in gear, brothers, and book your trip." You can chat with Brett about the centennial at rbo@ix.netcom.com. This piece was written before hurricanes Helene and Milton, which significantly impacted brother Ogilvie. To address all the damages, he has stepped down as Centennial Chairman but still looks forward to seeing you in Gainesville in March. Brother Ogilvie appreciates your thoughts and support. In his place, brother Brady Alexander '22 has stepped in as chairman of the Centennial Committee. If you have any questions, email centennial@flalpha.org.
