Sigma Phi Epsilon Page 5 Eight SigEps Share Their Internship Experiences Ryan Scharlau '25 This summer, I had the opportunity to work as a business development intern at Chicago Behavioral Hospital for a 10-week internship program. Chicago Behavioral Hospital is a for-profit psychiatric hospital that is part of the larger U.S. HealthVest nationwide system of hospitals specializing in the psychiatric care of highly symptomatic individuals. Throughout my internship, I was tasked with working directly with the CEO to spearhead an off-site therapy initiative that had not previously been carried out by a psychiatric hospital. This initiative, which I named the Chicago Behavioral Hospital Community- Based Intensive Outpatient Program, was aimed at targeting homeless shelters, rehab facilities, and community centers in low socioeconomic areas in the greater Chicagoland area to bring our services to them since transportation, finances, and location have historically been a huge barrier to receiving care for many of the individuals living in these areas. I am very proud to say that we were able to get this initiative into action by the end of my internship term, and I am extremely thankful for the opportunities I was given and the real-world skills I gained. Nikhil Srinivasan '25 This year, I had the opportunity to intern at Rivian Automotive in California for eight months as part of the manufacturing team. In this internship, I worked in a fast-paced environment to help start up the factory for a new generation of vehicles. I also worked on unreleased concept cars to ensure they could be made efficiently. This internship was an amazing experience for me to implement what I learned in my mechanical engineering classes in a hands-on environment. Looking forward, I want to continue pursuing my dream of working with cars and I am excited to see what the future brings. Ryan Feocco '25 This summer, I had the opportunity to be a sales intern at Gallagher alongside Carson White '26 and Noah Hamrick '24. This was my second summer at Gallagher, and I spent my time shadowing full-time salesmen, learning how to cold call, and talking to employees across the country in our different practice groups. We spent a week at their headquarters in Chicago and were able to visit a variety of clients, insurance carriers, and others in the industry. My interest is working with nonprofits, and I will hopefully get to do that as a full-time employee next fall! James Bautista '25 This summer, I was in Boston, Massachusetts, with GE Aerospace as a large combustor manufacturing engineering intern. My role had four main focuses: process improvement, lean management, material sourcing, and safety. Through my projects, I problem-solved to determine the root cause of part nonconformance, applied Lean Six Sigma, and gained valuable exposure to all aspects of the business. My accomplishments from this summer included increasing the braze first-time yield by 26% and creating a new flow cell that decreased part travel distance by over 50%. This experience completely shifted my future goals, and I look forward to continuing my career with GE Aerospace after graduation as a part of the Operations Management Leadership Program.
