the hawKeYe paGe 2 Iowa Alpha has finished another strong year. Dance Marathon continues to be the backbone of the Chapter's philanthropic involvements. Our Chapter took home the Mary Peterson Award for the most money raised of all Greek chapters; this year's total exceeded $24,000 and will benefit children receiving treatment at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital. Brothers also joined the Run for the Young 5K with Kappa Alpha Theta, raising over $14,000 for CASA and the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. That is not all, however, as you will always find Brothers attending Letters of Love meetings as well as volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club of Iowa City, which the chapter helped found.. Phi Psi also seized success in the classroom. We finished second among all UI chapters and first among chapters with over 100 members, accumulating a 3.27 GPA. Fifty-seven members made the dean's list, and 14 surpassed a 4.0 in the fall semester. The Chapter welcomed 39 new members, who had an average 3.27 GPA (including two Kinnick Scholars). We are confident these men will uphold the beliefs and values of Iowa Alpha and leave it better than they found it. Beyond our Chapter, Brothers continue to excel in their UI endeavors such as business fraternities, Hawkinson Institute, intramural sports, and club hockey. We would also like to congratulate Ethan Walz '23 on his election to the Interfraternity Council as the VP of finance and operations. In May, we honored 32 graduating seniors; we know they are off to wonderful things in the world and will carry Phi Psi with them forever. Iowa Alpha won Chapter of the Year at the University last academic year, and we look to repeat this year. LEDN! Engaging in interviews alongside other finalists allowed me to connect with a community of highly motivated young men. It honed my résumé-building and interviewing skills, while the scholarship's namesake, Nile Kinnick '38, became a source of inspiration. I was particularly impressed by the professionalism and organization exhibited by the Fraternity from the application phase to the well-executed interview sessions and the celebratory scholarship brunch. Overall, this experience was truly outstanding, and I strongly recommend all incoming freshmen consider applying." –Henry Tasker '27 "The Kinnick Scholarship not only supported my tuition but also educated me on the outstanding life achievements of Nile Kinnick. It helped motivate me to have the determination and work ethic that Kinnick did." –Sam Klinger '27 Congratulations, Kinnick Scholars! "Without a doubt, Phi Psi has been the vessel guiding me throughout my four years at Iowa. I have Phi Psi to thank for many things: opening doors for work opportunities, furnishing everlasting friendships, devoting me to my work and personal improvement, and teaching me a great deal of life lessons. Now, looking toward the future, I will likely be spending one more year in Iowa in pursuit of my master's degree—it's hard to stay away from the greatest Fraternity on campus. To my Brothers and closest friends, I thank you for this long, unpredictable, and nothing short of incredible journey you've all allowed me to be a part of. Amici and LEDN." –John Barton '24 "From the start of my college career, being a member of Phi Kappa Psi provided me with a strong sense of stability. The brotherhood blessed me with true lifelong friends, and serving on the executive board deeply developed my leadership and interpersonal skills. I hope to carry these skills and experiences with me in a career in commercial real estate after graduation. I am very thankful for everything Phi Psi brought me!" –Dennis Winter '24 Two Seniors Reflect on Their Fraternity Years Onward and Upward Brothers head to Hubbard Park for the fall 2023 Theta 5K, where Nate Macek '27 (left) and Cooper Chiafos '27 started their run. Congratulations to our winning Dance Marathon team!
