STANFORD UNIVERSITY
SPRING 2024
Updates from California Pi
G
reetings, California Pi alumni! As we write this, Stanford has
just wrapped up the spring fraternity recruitment period, and
our brotherhood welcomed 28 new members. As of the most recent
(2022-23) Stanford Fraternity and Sorority Life Annual Report, SigEp
is the largest of the 10 fraternities on campus with 108 members. Phi
Kappa Psi was the only other chapter with more than 100.
California Pi Earns SLC Accreditation
Another milestone to celebrate is the chapter's SigEp Learning
Community application being fully approved by Headquarters!
They join 66 other SLC chapters around the nation in helping their
universities foster a living/learning environment for their members
and providing a meaningful experience to brothers for the entirety of
their time on campus.
There is also a financial benefit to SLC accreditation. We have
unlocked the lowest tier of per-man insurance fees available to SigEp
chapters, which is ~$70/man lower than the second-lowest tier. With
our current year billing "snapshot" of 82 members, that amounts
to more than $5,700 back in the chapter's bank accounts that isn't
being spent on insurance premiums this year alone.
Looking Ahead
California Pi is excited to start putting this money to work. In the spirit
of encouraging a sound body, the chapter plans to purchase gym
equipment for a fitness center in the house. Members also want to
build a pergola and a firepit in their backyard, and they plan to create
a backyard herb and native plant garden to help brothers develop a
green thumb.
Lastly, with the SLC accreditation hurdle cleared, the chapter is
shifting focus to winning a Buchanan Cup in summer 2025. They
are doing a self-audit of their current operations relative to the
application and plan to spend the next several months putting their
best foot forward for the review committee!
