Anchored In Delta Gamma at the University of Kansas Spring 2024 INSIDE: Welcome, New Members p. 2 • Alumnae News p. 3 • Serving Sisterhood p. 4 Keeping Our Home Beautiful Exciting House and Chapter Updates I t's been a busy and wonderful year for Beta Kappa Chapter! Growing the Sisterhood In August, we welcomed 90 women to member class 2023. This spring, we welcomed another two new members into Beta Kappa through continuous open recruitment, making our Chapter total 247. Sisterhood Bonding In the last year, Beta Kappa has had 14 sisterhood events and 10 social events, including a pool party at Kane Family Farm during Work Week, a bagel breakfast bar following initiation, custom permanent bracelets by CoCoLinked, and a coffee truck at our Chapter house during finals week. We also held our fall semi-formal, Snowball, Valentine's semi-formal, and Cream Rose. Serving the Community We have held three philanthropy events in the past year and donated $11,696, adding to our total lifetime giving of $273,282. Our fall event, Anchor Games, had a great turnout. Our Champion of the Anchor was Riece Kennedy, a member of Alpha Kappa Lambda. Our winning Anchor Games team was coached by Eden Shanker '22. Our members continue to Do Good around the Lawrence community while volunteering at Audio Reader and other local organizations. We hosted our annual Cheesy with DG on April 25 during which guests got to try every member's favorite meal: Chef John's mac and cheese. Receiving Recognition Last spring, Sorority and Fraternity Life awarded us Excellence in Leadership and Campus Engagement, Distinction in Risk Reduction and Management, Distinction in Member Development and Education, and Distinction in Community of Awareness. We also successfully transitioned CMT and JCMT. This spring, we hosted a successful Founder's Day and loved celebrating our sisterhood. ITB, Kara Graham '21 Chapter President bkdeltagamma@gmail.com A lot of exciting things are happening at 1015 Emery Road! This year, House Corporation undertook several projects to improve the function of the house, such as purchasing a new chiller and stove. The whole exterior of the house also got a fresh coat of paint, a project that was made possible through a generous donation. While this past year's projects were necessary, what we are most excited about lies in the future. House Corporation is in the process of laying out plans that will focus on the interior of the house. We will be working with an interior designer to add hardwood floors and update the dining room. These are changes that the collegians have indicated they would like to see. There are many projects in the works and, above all, we want to keep the house a place the women love to call home. Stay tuned for what is to come! While we have been busy working on these projects, the collegians have been even busier making connections with alumnae. This past year, they hosted several events, including a "Welcome Home" open house during KU's Homecoming week and, more recently, an alumnae spring event. Connecting with alumnae is a priority, and that means getting in touch with you too! The Chapter has its own alumnae newsletter to talk about all things Beta Kappa. If you are not on the mailing list, please email bkdgalumnaerelations@gmail.com to be added. There is much to look forward to on the horizon. If you have not had a chance to stop by the Chapter house recently, we encourage you to do so. It is important that we rally behind Beta Kappa. We have a responsibility to protect our legacy and uplift future generations of Delta Gammas. We look forward to the future!
