A Most Special DG Memory Cori recently got engaged to her fiancé, Jerry! "He called one of my Delta Gamma best f riends, and she flew to New York to surprise us. We finished this incredible dinner where he proposed and went to one of my favorite places in New York to get drinks. We walk around the corner and he tells me to look to my left—Kim Rieger, Alpha Iota '90 was waiting there! Having a sorority sister show up for me and celebrate with me and Jerry was just so meaningful." Beta Kappa Chapter of Delta Gamma University of Kansas P.O. Box 442100 Lawrence, KS 66044-2100 Address Service Requested Learn what our members have been up to inside! A t 18, Cori Wallace, Delta Omega '96 wanted to join a sorority that was recognizable to her friends and family. When she attended William Woods University, she found that the women of Delta Gamma were some of the most ambitious, focused, successful, and authentic young women on campus. "I could learn a lot about myself, better myself, and be myself in that environment," she shared. Cori had a wonderful undergraduate experience, including the opportunity to live in the house all four years of college because it was a small and intimate campus community. Her favorite memories were the happy surprises, whether going on a Sonic Coke date with a sister she didn't know very well only to realize they had a lot in common or making some of her best friends who have been there for her throughout her life through thick and thin. Through DG, Cori learned how to motivate and support others. As an adult, Delta Gamma remains a big part of her identity. The sorority gave Cori her first job as a traveling chapter development consultant (CDC) for the fraternity. That role got her invested, and she has continued to serve as a volunteer. Serving on International Council twice, on multiple house corporation boards, on the extension team, and as a recruitment advisor, she also had the opportunity to serve as the first chairman of the diversity, equity, and inclusion advisory council (DEIAC). "As a Black member, getting the opportunity to shape our future to be a more diverse and inclusive one, one that's focused on belonging, was really powerful for me." Cori currently sits on Beta Kappa's House Corporation Board. She notes that the collegians and advisors are lovely, and she has enjoyed exploring the Chapter's options together. "When I look back, I'm going to look back on the women I got to work with and the things we were able to do together." In June, Cori will transition to HCB president. She looks forward to serving with the newest board members as well as those who have more experience. The board's goals include ensuring the Chapter house remains competitive at KU and finding easy ways for parents, friends, and alumnae to support the sisterhood. In her new role, Cori wants to focus on rebuilding relationships with alumnae. In her career, Cori works for the City of Lawrence as the director of communications and community relations, which she loves. "I'm so lucky to serve a community that's as dynamic and vibrant as Lawrence." Cori is happy to be marrying a proud fraternity man who continues to give back to his organization and organizations around the world. "I'm super proud of the work that he does to support the growing fraternal movement." Cori loves to read and can have four to six books going at any given time. She also enjoys cooking to relax, and since she and her fiancé are raising two young men, there's lots of food to be made! You can connect with Cori at coringilbert@gmail.com.
