W e are excited to kick off our Alumni/ Active Mentorship Program! This initiative will match an on-campus member with an alumni who is in the same career field. The process will start as soon as a new member joins our brotherhood since we aim to steer these young men toward sustainable success by providing guidance and encouragement from our valued alumni. We need 60 brothers to raise their hand and volunteer to be a mentor for our men. You can spend as little or as much time as you can spare, and you hope you will find this opportunity to be as rewarding and valuable to you as it is to the mentee! If you'd like to volunteer, please send me an email with your contact information and current career field. After receiving that, we can pair you with an undergraduate and introduce you to your mentee. Fraternally, Tommy Elms '89 tommy.elms@att.net Arming the Next Generation A L U M N I M E N T O R S N E E D E D D r. Matt Seimears '90 was recently selected as president of Lower Columbia College in Longview, Washington. Matt attended Butler Community College and then Pittsburg State, where he earned a bachelor's degree in education. Later, he earned his master's degree at Wichita State and a second bachelor's at Newman University. He has taught at several colleges, including 15 years at Emporia State, where he also served in many leadership positions. In 2019, Matt became the dean of the college of education at Eastern Oregon University and was named provost in 2022. Please join me in congratulating Dr. Matt on such a successful career so far; we know he's just getting started. Keep it up, Matt! The men of SigEp Kansas Theta are all proud of you. If you'd like to reconnect with Matt, you can send him an email at ms259259@yahoo.com. Dr. Matt Seimears Excels in Education Field M uch has changed in the past 50 years of Kansas Theta. When Mark Shepard '76, Dave Carpenter '76, Reed Fuller '77, and the other founding fathers started the chapter, the structure was loose, but a great time was had by all. Today we are more stringent in our operations, but one thing remains true: the guys continue to have fun! Today, a new member must have a 2.7 GPA and maintain it throughout their time at SigEp. Raising this standard helped us achieve a 3.23 GPA in fall 2022, the highest semester average ever recorded by a fraternity at Pitt State! We have averaged between 3.11 and 3.23 for the past three years. We have also received several awards on campus, including awards for Fraternity of the Year, Top Grades, Philanthropic, Intramurals, and more. Our goal is to get another Buchanan Cup in July 2025 in Tampa. Indeed, all our programming efforts are focused on doing whatever it takes to get the national recognition that we had back in the 1980s and early 1990s. We are close to reaching that goal—with the support of our alumni! Brothers like you can do their part by participating in our mentorship programs and returning to the house to speak to the chapter.
