The Front Porch Kansas Theta | Pittsburgh State University | Spring 2024 50 Years of SIGEP SPIRIT O ur 50th anniversary Homecoming festivities were a huge success! We had a tremendous turnout, and everyone enjoyed telling old stories and raising funds for the chapter house. If you didn't come, you missed out! Everyone is already talking about the 55th anniversary Homecoming event, which is set for 2028. The weekend started on Thursday with a cookout at the house and a Yell Like Hell competition to support the chapter. Friday morning, we participated in a sold-out alumni golf tournament. Friday afternoon featured an alumni meeting at the Student Union where we did an honorary initiation for Vincent Clifford, brother of Jerry '81 and Steve Clifford '86. Friday evening, over 300 people attended a reception at the Kansas Crossing Casino ballroom. Saturday began with a parade and tailgate. We had two huge tents packed with people eating barbecue, catching up with old friends, and enjoying themselves. Saturday night, we enjoyed the awards banquet and dance. We kicked it off with a great video from Dave Carpenter '76, who could not join us. The on-campus members accepted several awards, and the alumni board won a regional award for Operational Excellence given by SigEp District Governor Dale Werts. Doc Strader '64 was honored with a picture of him and his Order of the Golden Heart medal, which will hang in the formal room of the house. We capped off our fundraising efforts with donations to the Doc Strader Golden Heart Fund. Silent auction winners and raffle winners were also announced. Final tabulations are still in the works as we collect the final pledges, but we already know we are close to achieving our goal of paying off the $75,000 loan on the house! A special thanks is due to Don Wheeler '85, who was our Mirza sponsor for the night. He was able to help us secure the facility, which is the only place in Pittsburg that could handle the size of our group. And thank YOU to all who attended! The SigEp spirit was in full force all weekend, and we can't wait to do it again in 2028. Alumni Volunteer Committee President Tommy Elms '89 VP of Programming Kris McElroy '26 VP of Communications Parker Welborn '18 VP of Finance Ryan Schulteis '16 VP of SLC (Scholarship) Michael Torgler '00 VP Housing Russ Nentrup '92 Chapter Counselor Jerry Casidy '85 W e appreciate our alumni organization's executive board, which handles day-to-day operations and supports the active chapter. Each of these positions drive activity for the alumni and serve as a mentor for their chapter officer counterparts. A tailgate means delicious food, cold drinks, and new memories made! Doc Strader '64 accepts the Order of the Golden Heart at our awards ceremony. H o m ec o m in g Event R e ca p
