What made Phi Psi at UT the right fraternity for you? I was an out-of-state student. Phi Psi provided a balance of people who shared similar interests but came from different backgrounds. I was instantly comfortable with brothers and my fellow pledges. How would you describe the impact that Texas Alpha has had on your life? My Phi Psi brothers are some of my closest friends. In some instances, our kids go to school and play sports together. Although I don't talk to some brothers as much as I'd like, I know they would quickly be there if needed. What are some of your favorite Texas Alphan memories? The builds with my pledge class, football games and social events. One of my favorite memories is having to pull an all-nighter to finish a school project because I let Alon Bernstein '93, Guy Dudley '93, and Brad Heiman '94 talk me into going to a Rangers game before heading back to Austin after I visited them in Dallas for the weekend. What was the biggest challenge Texas Alpha faced while you were an undergraduate? What did you learn from that? Recruiting new members with a limited budget and no kitchen. While the current situation is preferrable, we learned that the people who did want to join really wanted to be Phi Psis. We certainly were not getting new members based on the great house amenities or over-the-top social events. What inspires you give back to Texas Alpha? I love that the chapter hasn't just sustained itself but grown into something better. I'm impressed with the quality of young men I meet every time I come to the house. Hopefully the bonds they form are lasting and will encourage them to follow the example and give back themselves. Do you get together with your Texas Alphan brothers? We have a fantasy football group who meets at least once a year and texts throughout the year. There is a smaller group that tries to have lunch monthly. I see some at sports events and live down the street from one pledge brother.
