ALPHA AVALANCHE | TEXAS ALPHA | PHI KAPPA PSI | | FALL EDITION 2023 Michael Streich '04 What made Phi Psi the right fraternity for you and what impact has it had on your life? I didn't plan on joining a fraternity when I came to Texas, but I did want to meet new people. I remember getting a phone call from one of the summer recruitment captains, Hunter Simmons '03. He invited me to a Phi Psi event and introduced me to Mitch Greene '04 and Garrett Payne '04, and we immediately became friends. The relationships I made at Texas Alpha impact me daily. My pledge brother Brent Schakett '04 introduced me to my wife when we moved to Houston. I am on daily group chats with many different groups of Phi Psis from my college years. What are some of your favorite Texas Alpha memories? My brothers and I continue the tradition of attending an away game together every year and have started to include our wives for the more exciting destinations. We have taken trips for games against West Virginia, Ole Miss, UCLA, Oklahoma State and Notre Dame. What was the biggest challenge Texas Alpha faced while you were an undergraduate? Our new house was supposed to be built at 2401 Longview Street. Many of the pledges near my age were rushed on the promise of a new house that would be the best on campus. Unfortunately, hurricanes caused building costs to rise, and that new house never materialized. We then spent the next few years living in the Sigma Chi and old Sigma Delta Tau houses. The housing uncertainty frustrated a lot of brothers at the time, but we eventually made it through and finally have that new house we had always hoped for. We learned that while houses are nice – and important – it's the people you spend time with that make your college experience special. What inspires you to give back to Texas Alpha? There were quite a few alumni who were regularly involved in our chapter when I was an undergraduate. I always appreciated their involvement and felt it was important to try to provide similar support to current chapter members. Tell us about your life now. I'm a trial lawyer in Houston, Texas. We represent people injured in truck crashes, in oilfield accidents and while working offshore. My wife, Lauren, was a Zeta at Texas. While I lived next to the Zeta house for three years, we didn't meet until we both moved to Houston for graduate school. She is now a dentist in Crosby, Texas. We have two girls, Sloane (6) and Heidi (4). Michael lives in Crosby, Texas, and can be reached at mstreich.uh@gmail.com TEXAS ALPHANS THROUGH THE AGES
