FALL 2023
Starting the
New Year Strong
What Texas Alpha Has
Accomplished Since Spring
G
reetings from Texas Alpha! We are knee-
deep into the fall with all that it brings:
football, socials, football, and football (and
philanthropy)! We welcomed 54 new members
to Texas Alpha in August—a fine bunch from
seven different cities and three states. They
are trying to best last semester's new member
GPA… we'll see.
Speaking of GPA, the chapter earned 3.47 for
spring 2023, beating the all-university men's
and all-undergraduate GPAs. Spring was also a
highly successful social season. Not sure how
the boys handle all of it, but they do.
Summer brought the usual recruitment activities.
A large contingency of Texas Alpha actives
and alumni went to the National Conclave (our
biennial national conference) in San Antonio,
where one of our own, Reid Porter '99, was
awarded the SigEp Citation for his extraordinary
efforts through ACT to fight crime and violence
on the streets of Dallas through the civil justice
system (actforjustice.org).

A
pril and May saw another great season of Texas Alpha alumni happy hours across the state
of Texas. Over 150 brothers across three cities participated in what has become a strong
annual event with the support of the Texas Alpha Education Foundation.
April 13 saw alumni gather in Austin at County Line on the Lake with special guest and Grand
President Billy Maddalon, North Carolina State '90 on hand to present Mark Kiester '71 with
the National Exemplary Service Award for his many tireless years of service to the fraternity.
Special thanks to Doug Jones '05 and Kent McCoy '13 for leading the event organization.
On May 10, Dallas area brothers gathered at the Park House, hosted by Eddie King '89, while
the Houston event was held at The Forest Club with Greg Barra '03 handling the arrangements.
The Texas Alpha Education Foundation is proud and excited to underwrite events like these that
promote alumni connections and increase engagement. These brotherly ties are necessary to fulfill
our role in supporting the undergraduate chapter and alumni.
If you or other brothers didn't receive notifications of these events, it's likely because contact
information in the database is out of date. Please send any email or mailing address updates to
texasaustin.sigep.org/blog/we-need-your-updated-contact-information.
Texas Alpha's Dallas happy hour. Hook 'em! Fun and fellowship at the Houston happy hour.
