Mike was born in Jacinto City, Texas, and grew up in Irving, where he found his love of playing sports (especially baseball). As a brother of Texas Alpha, he served as chapter vice president followed by president. Mike's vibrant and gregarious personality lent itself well to a career in sales and advertising. His favorite career highlight was owning his own screen-printing business with his brother, Chuck, for 20 years. Richard W. Martin '77 passed away on May 18, 2023. Rick received degrees from both the University of Texas and Texas A&M in radio, television, and film as well as anthropology. Rick spent most of his life working in his chosen field of oil and gas. He moved to Breckenridge, Colo., in 2019 to work for Vail Resorts (and to ski). Rick was a lover of the outdoors and a talented artist with an insatiable, witty sense of humor. His killer smile was huge, his laugh was raucous and contagious, his kind heart was big, and his hugs were genuine and strong. Karol J. Bobko '89 passed away on August 17, 2023. Col. Bobko was an Air Force pilot who joined NASA as an astronaut in 1969, waiting 14 years before going into space. He piloted the first voyage of the shuttle Challenger—nearly three years before its tragic explosion. Karol was also part of a Defense Department project to explore the military uses of space. The Air Force's Manned Orbiting Laboratory planned to shoot astronauts into orbit in a modified Gemini capsule that would have been connected to a 50-foot-long lab and powered by a Titan booster rocket. Jeffrey D. Fisher '92 passed away on April 6, 2023. Jeffrey was born in Houston on February 15, 1969, and moved to Geneva, Switzerland, at the age of 10; there he became fluent in French and began his love for the outdoors. Jeffrey was a beloved member of the Austin community, known for his diverse passions, including coffee artistry, yoga, outdoor adventures, and financial markets. He founded Lambeth Capital, generously supporting various charitable causes throughout his life. Jeffrey's warm spirit and sharp wit will be greatly missed. Our undergraduate brothers have been busy.
