Page 4 Riley on the football field S ince Epsilon Beta's founding in 1923, our Chapter has been fortunate to have dedicated and loyal House Corporation boards that have worked tirelessly to ensure our success. One of our proudest achievements came in the late 1960s when Epsilon Beta purchased two houses beside each other on East Franklin Street and embarked on a project to combine them into one grand 16,000 square foot sorority house, which we have called home for the past 53 years. MAINTAINING OUR HOME For over five decades, our Chapter has cherished this beautiful home located in the heart of Chapel Hill. As Epsilon Beta's 100th year on UNC's campus approaches, our focus has shifted toward sustainability. The wear and tear of time have taken a toll on our beloved house. The cedar shingles on the exterior, windows, and doors are 110 years old and in desperate need of repair. Additionally, the entire roof requires replacement. Moreover, we have been facing constant problems with our outdated and inefficient HVAC system, which fails to provide comfort for our members. Recognizing the importance of inclusivity, our membership has also requested the implementation of ADA ramps, an elevator, wider hallways for wheelchair accessibility, and an accessible bathroom located near the front of our house. It is vital for us to ensure that all members, regardless of physical ability, can fully participate in the sorority experience and feel included in every aspect of our Chapter. PLANS MOVING FORWARD To address these pressing concerns, we have enlisted the expertise of Jim Spencer, a renowned architect from Chapel Hill. With his guidance, Epsilon Beta is developing plans for a comprehensive renovation. As we prepare to celebrate Epsilon Beta's centennial at UNC, our Chapter is filled with gratitude. Chi Omega has thrived for a century at 313 East Franklin Street, and we are determined to ensure it remains a cherished home for future generations. The dedication and perseverance of our alumnae have brought us to this momentous occasion. We are grateful for their unwavering commitment to Epsilon Beta and their foresight in securing a permanent home for our Chapter. As we embark on the next century at 313 East Franklin Street, we do so with gratitude, honor, and excitement for the bright future that awaits us. Chi Omega at UNC is ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead and continue to flourish in our cherished home. Loyally, The Epsilon Beta House Corporation Board The Road Ahead for Epsilon Beta Our Renovation Journey Begins W ith immense sorrow, we share that Epsilon Beta lost our 2022 executive board president, Riley Watkins '24, in her courageous battle with Ewing sarcoma. To honor Riley's spirit and enduring legacy, we are creating the Riley Watkins Memorial Library at the Epsilon Beta Chapter House. She will forever be a part of the home that welcomed her with open arms and brought her so much happiness. Donations to the memorial fund will help provide a space where sisters can gather to remember Riley and do one of her favorite things: read. As we mourn the loss of our sister, donations to the Riley Watkins Memorial Fund will also work to fulfill Riley's dream of ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder a woman's opportunity for student leadership and giving back to Carolina's student community.
