PREP RALLY: CLASS 2A/8-MAN | 8.20.2023 50 SUBIACO ACADEMY COACH Adam Creek 2022 RECORD 5-3, 5-2 8-man 3A South RETURNING STARTERS 5 offense, 5 defense KEY PLAYERS QB/DB Anthony Gerhig (Sr., 5-9, 165), QB/RB/LB Brody Koch (Sr., 5-9, 175), RB/LB Drew Creek (Sr., 6-2, 225), OL/DL Camarion Raino (Sr., 5-9, 250), OL/DL Matt Mayeux (Sr., 6-5 285). NOTABLE The Trojans built on their first winning season last year since 2010 with another winning campaign. … For the first time since the 2009 and 2010 seasons, Subiaco Academy finished with back-to-back winning seasons. … The Trojans had their season on the road in the semifinals against Fountain Lake. … Subiaco Academy expects to rotate three quarterbacks with Anthony Gerhig and Brody Koch being returners with Christopher Monroe, a transfer from the Bahamas, looking to make an impact right away. … Koch made an impact on both sides of the ball last year, rushing for 655 yards with 11 touchdowns and 7.5 yards per carry to go with 126 tackles with 15 going for a loss. … Camarion Raino and Matt Mayeux bring plenty of experience on the offensive line. … Drew Creek, son of coach Adam Creek, returns after playing a key role last year as a leading blocker and being the general of the defense. QUOTABLE "We are just competitive now, which is a big step. We might not win every game, but we are in them. That's all I can ask for. You can tell the community has enjoyed it. NOTABLE The Rebels have won exactly two games in 4 of the past 5 seasons. … Johnson County Westside continues to build looking for its first winning season since 2015, when the program finished 6-5. … The Rebels this year have 2 seniors on a roster of 18 players. … Cooper Hilton returns as the team's quarterback. He is a good scrambler (4.7 speed) and can make deep throws. … Kyle Wahn is one of the team's top playmakers lining up at running back and wide receiver. … Bowen Keylon and Justin Haltom are the team's seniors and will make a big impact on both sides of the ball. … The Rebels love the size they have on the line with Levi Gregory (6-7, 275) and Dontay Parker (6-3, 290) leading the way. … The defense is guided by Haltom up front and in the secondary by Bowen with their senior leadership and experience. QUOTABLE "We are younger, so these guys will gain plenty of experience for us. This group has been working hard and has shown this summer what our potential could be. NOTABLE Mountainburg won at least three games for a 20th consecutive season last year in the transition to first-year coach Zach Dean. … The Dragons hope to get back to their winning ways in 2019, finishing 6-5, and in 2018, finishing 8-3. … Ryan Allen started the final game of the season last year as a freshman and tossed for more than 200 yards and 3 touchdowns in a win. … He takes over as the varsity signal caller after accounting for nearly 1,200 yards and leading the JV team to a 7-1 record and a conference championship. … Shay Pixley transitioned from quarterback to wide receiver in the final game last year and caught 3 touchdowns and had 211 yards. … Levi Pense projects to lead the team in carries as a sophomore. … The offensive line could start three sophomores but does have experience in three-year starter Bobby Dean leading the unit. … On the defensive side of the ball, Garrett Jones and Dean will be big factors again after earning all-league honors last season. Dean finished with a team-high 78 tackles last year, while Jones finished with 41 tackles. QUOTABLE "Our culture is starting to change. Last year was a transition year. The boys are getting used to who I am and a different voice. Things are going to be different after a change is made with the coach being there for more than 30 years. NOTABLE The Rattlers return plenty of experience from last year's team that increased the win total by 2 from the previous season. … Magazine is looking to build back to the success the program saw in 2020 (finished 9-2) and in 2019 (finished 8-2). … Ryan Chambers, who was on the team when Magazine won the state title in 2010, returns to guide the program as the coach. … Keej Vang or Brock Canada, both sophomores, competed for the starting quarterback position this summer. … Ethan Vasquez, who earned all-conference honors last year, returns to make plays on both sides of the ball (325 yards and 2 touchdowns to go with a team-high 6 interceptions). … Kolton McCubbin and Chakong Yang project to carry the ball the most this season for the Rattlers. QUOTABLE "I was just talking to my wife about this the other day that I've put my entire life into Magazine football. It's good to be back and be able to keep giving. My coaches meant so much to me growing up here. I hope to be just like them for my kids. I want to make an impact for these guys.
